gas shut off on the gas tank

Anyone-
I have heard of the NN per JC comment..
My stupid question is running out of fuel. Autos say at 1/4 tank to refill, but mostly so they don't replace as many under warranty for overheated FP failure.
What about our babies?
How low is too low? Can they pump until the tank is empty? (I know, I know, not if they have the clogged filters/screens)

maybe the cars have a heat sensor. My camaro is injected and I've run it dry before didn't hurt it...

I think what rchh is trying to say is that you can turn the petc0ck by getting a screwdriver blade or a punch on one of the corners and prying it, because there is no handle. (only needs to be turned 1/2 way for shut off)

Close ... but no cigar this time, NN.

Suzuki was probably afraid to put a real petcock WITH handle on it because of increased chance of kinked fuel-lines then in that overcrowded area under the tank?

Can't remember if it was a recess or a small ledge sticking out in the middle, but either by "clamping" that ledge or putting screwdriver blade in the recess, it's possible to turn that thing without prying.

According to JC the reason for no handle is that the fuel pump is fuel cooled. If you accidently leave it turned off......pppphhhoooowwwwwwffffffff! one nicely singed Busa.

I've ran it dry before. No ill effects noticed. This is even before the fuel petcock recall work was done. Of course this is not an endorsement to do so.

I've ran the 'busa on near empty as well seeing the indicator light on the fuel gage turn on. I was able to hit at least 10 miles and I then refilled the tank. I don't know how many miles are normally allowed on the fuel gage when the indicator light appears. I know I spelled "gage" incorrectly but I'm not about to rush to a dictionary right now.
