As you may have noticed I'm new, and I was wondering how much the Gear or "leather and Helmet" would cosat and where is the best place to get it from? Thanks

Really depends on what you are looking for. A good place to look is <a href="http://www.newenough.com">NewEnough<a>, but it really depends on what you are looking for to answer that question.

The best thing i can say is search. I know it's a long process but you can find the best deals and information about a particular item. And if you know what you want check out E-Bay also...

Also don't forget your local parts guys... Mom and Pop need to make a living too. It's also a good idea to go to a local dealer and try on different helmets from different manufacterers until you find the perfect fit, then Order it from them. Might cost a little extra but by the time you factor in shipping and the wait via the Postal service, it's sometimes worth the extra money. Fit is critical, and be certain any helmet you buy has both the Dot and SNELL stamps... Leather wise, man you can spend $1K easy, but you can also find functional gear for just a couple hundred bucks. Again leather jackets should be snug so they don't move around on yah in a crash, but you should be comfortable while riding not standing around.

Helmet and GLOVES are the two most critical pieces of gear you'll wear. Get good stuff that you will like to wear and is comfortable.

Oh and Newenough's customer service and return policies are the best I have found yet, keep an eye on their close-outs... Good family owned place...

going to your local mom and pop dealer also might help establish a relationship that will be vital in the future care and maintenance of you hayabusa.

I chose to spend the bucks and went with beautiful vanson leathers jacket. Got it for $550 though it retails for $700. Many dealers sell vanson. Vanson's service and policies are great in terms of restoration, cleaning etc. I also have Joe Rocket Jacket for winter (heavy and lined) and a Joe Rocket Phoenix jacket for the 90 degree days of summer. Do not scrimp on helmet and jacket. Pay the bucks and ride with some sort of confidence and protection.

My Shoei helmet ran about $200....I talked the guy down when I bought my motorcycle from him.

Moreover, if you buy a lot of stuff from one guy...he may cut you a nice deal. for Gloves, helmet and jacket. You just have to ask. It works wonders.

Helmet was $430
Jacket was $320
Gloves were $120
total $870

Next I need boots, 1 or 2 piece suit.

One of the best bits of advice I can give for the new gear buyer is to match the jacket and pants so that they zip or/button together properly.

Nothing is worse than a jacket that will not 'button up' and flys up and lets cold air in at the core, smack dab on your mid back.

Makes for one cold ride there and one cold ass ride back.

Do you homework. Buy first class or the best that you can afford the first time. That way you don't spend hard earned cash twice when the shabby "not so thought out" gear fails and goes south.

Safety
Comfort
Durability

Think it through.

I wanna second Babuski on the Joe Rocket stuff. I bought a set from New Enough when I first started. They were on clearence. I think I got pants and jacket for well under $200. Good for most riding unless it gets really hot in your climate.

I personally recommend getting a full suit (jacket, pants, helmet, gloves and boots) and wearing it, not just riding around in blue jeans. I have seen a lot of guys running around in jeans and tennis shoes and I am sure that is convenient - until you low side or otherwise leave your bike when it's not stopped. Putting on pants and boots doesn't take more than 30 to 45 seconds, and, at least in my opinion, is worth the trouble considering how much time you'll lose if you get injured from an unscheduled get-off. Even my Phoenix pants (the mesh ones from Joe Rocket, which are good up to about 85 -90 degrees) held together for a crash in the twisties. Not so sure denim would have done the same.

If you like the look of denim but want protection, I have heard good things about Draggin Jeans. Never tried them myself though.

For full leathers, the sky is the limit. I got a set from Syed, pants and jacket which zip together at the waist, for $1200. Fit great, and full ventilation makes them useable even in really hot weather (in fact, because my suit is yellow, it's actually not as hot as the Phoenix stuff, which is black.) However, you'd quickly tire of getting in and out of such a suit.

Whatever you choose, make sure it's comfortable and easy to use so that you will use it all the time. Great protection doesn't do you any good if you don't wear it.

I'm not going to get into Brand names and personal preference because we'll be here all night. I'm not going to give you a lecture on riding gear but I will say this; whatever jacket or suit you choose make sure it has hard armor in the shoulder, forearms, knee and shins. Now, take that for what its worth.

Excellent question, I am a FIRM believer in GEAR!

And jeans just dont get it. Jeans are like a 1 on a scale to 100 just a smidge better than shorts... get stuff with kevlar, armor, leather ... head, leg, knees and spine injuries are the most common and when laying in a hospital bed how many guyz have said " I shoulda had better gear... "

I just recieved a 2 piece custom suit from Reflex gear. Great quality and the price cant be beat! If you cant properly be sized in off the shelf leathers, Reflex can get you rolling for $799 + shipping.

I also have a Suzuki textile jacket and Joe Rocket Ballistic pants that zip together. The textile works real well as cold weather gear.
