I'm trying to figure out if changing gears is worthwhile.
I read through the "sprocket changes" thread......but there's just to much quagmyre in there......too much arguing to pull out lots of good info.
Could all of you who have done a change, please state what you went to and why you like yer new set-up........and remember no arguing.......pleeeeeease.
Thanks to everyone in advance.

Sorry about the last thread!
It went badly!
Anyway.
Most people that I have seen, that want to get more bottom end, go either 1 tooth down in front or 2 up in the rear.
1 Tooth is about the same as 3 up on the rear.
In MY opinion, you don't wanna go more than that, unless you want to sacrifice alot of top end.
2 UP on the rear will allow you to run quicker on the bottom and still fly on top, but it WILL loose a little. Most people don't do much "top end" anyway, so they don't mind loosing a little to gain the bottom.
When you go 2 up, the wheel base is shortened, making the bike wheelie more.
1 down allows an increase in lowend AND it increases the wheel base.
Still gonna wheelie tho!
It's all about what kind of riding that you wanna do. if you are in the twisties, you can stack it with gear, making it not so critical what gear you come out of the corners in.
Stacking it with gear makes for a fun ride. Wheelies and burnouts are on tap, however, it WILL slow you down in the upper midrange and topend.

These are just MY opinions, so take it with a grain of salt.

I'm on my way to S.Florida next week. I'll be sportin a 37 tooth on the rear. Lookin for some "TOPEND"!
I'm gonna put the SLEEPER, over 200mph!

It all depends on what kind of riding you do most. I dropped 1 in front and went up 2 in the rear. Low end and midrange it accelerates much harder, you will loose some top end and fuel economy. Speedo will be off by about 18% which you can correct with a yellow box. You will also pick up some engine braking going into corners and better acceleration coming out of the corners. If your into twisties and don't mind losing a little top and losing some mpg on the highway gears are the only way to go. Front and rear gears only cost about $75 and are fairly simple to install.

not noticing the language................

speakin of canadians., where the hell has rsd been?

gearing - I went with -1 up front. perfect for launch and trap speed.... hitting redline in 4th right at the traps. works for now. more hp will make me change gears again.

RSD just got hitched.......and has a bunch of time off right now......last I heard he was on a ride and was gonna stop over here but I haven't seen him.....must be busy rippin up the streets of Victoria er sumthin.

I started stock and added +2 rear and ended with 16/42. Only negative thing is I can only get up to 175mph, but that's not a big deal for me. I want roll-on power and the help with second gear wheelies.

Had the stock setup 17/40 for a couple of months then went to a 17/42 setup. Felt a little more pull, but not really that much. After about 6 months of riding with the 17/42 I changed out the front sprocket for a 16/42. Now I can feel the bike pulling harder through all the gears. As far as gas mileage who cares it’s a bike and gets much better mileage than any car or truck out there. My speedometer was off, but yellowbox fixed that…

I’m not too concerned with top end runs, I can deal with what I lose on the top end for the hard pulling power I receive at the bottom end.

:super:

my advice is start with dropping one in the front that way you dont have to take your wheel off just pull the chain and swap sprockets see how ya like it if you need a little mere jump to a bigger rear but i found one down was really nice, plus the front sprocket is about 20-40.00 less. also i agree with ba-busa your speedo will be way off when you do this i however reccomend the speedo healer from speedohealer.com its about 30.00 cheeper and has a wider range of adjustment. enjoy
