Bought a gen 1 motor for a ground up build super familiar with cam in block engines and pretty new to the motorcycle world looking for some tips on the rebuild if I should go turbo or keep it na got the machines for block work and plan on just buying a head the one I got was pretty bad
Block needs hone for sure don’t know how big I can stretch the boar and if I should be buying crank rods pistons etc
Experience even helps let me know what you do

How hard is an align hone I haven’t gotten a dial boar gauge on it yet but it looks like you know

You will never properly hone any cylinder by hand, as you cannot consistentantly control the speed, depth, or angle of the stroke.
Can you hone it by hand? Sure, but you will put waves in the bore.

Stock crank, you can have the gear removed and balanced, lightening optional.

Rods and pistons depending on how much power u want to make.

And there’s nothing wrong with boring it, just letting u know it needs to be replated if u do that. Some places do an exchange.
We have a balance machine but you think I can take it to a shop for just the gear removal.
Gonna get rods and pistons for it before I order them I don’t know what a safe boar size is for the stock block or if I should be using it at all, or if changing the compression ratio is an option (not going turbo)

1397 with a lil compression bump is typical for a 1st gen, along with a intake cam on the exhaust side or a set of gen 2 cams. Don’t “need” rods for that but nice to have. Wouldn’t do much more for a steetbike.

Ape removes the gear and balances it dirt cheap

going with Carrillo rods getting the crank done by ape as recommended getting a brand new head and gen 2 cams just need to know how big I can boar the stock block out or if I should do it at all, want to go to 84-85 and Ik stock it’s 11:1 but want a bump it up to 13-14

Look on ape website, pretty sure u can send your block in and they’ll send u a new one bored out to whatever u want. But is it a streetbike or race? That’ll dictate how big and how much compression
Gonna be a street bike and would like to hit 1400cc, looked at some of the machine prices and they’re cheep but I’m a student for engine machining and have access to a boar bar and sk10 ik it needs a replate after but it’s a stock block and case and don’t wanna push to to hard

Cases and block are tough, those 700hp pro street bikes have stock cases

But sounds like u just want a 1397, that’s easy to do. Probably need another battery for a high compression 1397 though

Dnyce and everyone else you have been a huge help I can’t thank you enough for the knowledge I think I’ve got a good enough idea of what I’m doing to start, and I’ll probably make a few progress post here when things get done
