Gen 2 trans in to gen 1 cases

Johnny turbo laid the two side by side last week and told me that the shaft is longer on the 08 than the 1st gen. The shaft has a much better design, but he said that the parts chasing to align it all on a street bike may not be worth the swap. But, the gears will swap over and they are undercut from the factory.

Is this 100% certain? All gears are undercut from the factory? I knew the output shaft was completely different, but gear undercutting - that the first I heard of this. I have about 1500 passes on mine, and I haven't taken it out because it hasn't been a problem

so my question is if the gen 2 gears are cut. couldn't i just buy a second gear for an 08 and not have the down time to wait for mine to be cut on an 03?

Well, my 2000 lost 2nd gear and i started researching it. Like everyone else, no one could help me. I finally found a contact that assured me it would work. So in turn i went ahead and purchase a great deal on ebay for an 08 trans. It fits perfectly, and the whole trans is a direct bolt in. No problem! So yes, it fits and works great.

And also, the gen 2 trans is a 5 dog gears. gen 1 trans is 4 dog gears. It's either all or nothing with the trans swap.

U can install a gen 2 tranny in a gen 1 done a few of them.

Ogre, sorry but i'm not about to take it apart again for a picture for ya. I've done it and it works like a champ. Done and running!

So you know it works for sure then. I did mine and just finish my buddies bike yesterday with the same. I still can't believe how many parts swap over from the gen 2 motors, amazing!
