Gen II clutch basket in GenI?

Hi Guys..

Getting pretty tired of the rear wheel locking up when I downshift
on trackdays and since the Gen II has a slipper clutch this should
cure my little issue... Does anyone know if the GenII complete clutch
is bolt on my 99? Getting a used GenII clutch assy from ebay is so cheap it like

Yeah yeah, I know... I could be a little nicer on the downshift but
now I'm not...
And since my busa probably won't live through the summer without a
headswitch I might just as well replace the clutch when I'm at it..
Also going to replace TB's, injectors, put in a ported head with new valves and cams.. Things I didn't have money to do during the winter... :(

TIA!!

The gen 2 basket is going to change things for you. You may want to look at your suspension settings....

Practice blipping the throttle a little bit to match the wheel speed with the motor when downshifting.

I'm guessing the stock drive hub has been welded or replaced with a 1-piece unit.

That would be correct...
Trying to do anything above 3000rpm with the lock up in place
only results in either a wheelie and me sh!tt!ng my pants or a stall..
Neither one was very nice... :D

That's the reason I wanted to know if the 08-> clutch would fit bolt on since it's a slipper from the get go and without the lockup...
Yeah I know the 03 is without the lockup but then it doesn't have the slipper
ability...

Btw, so sorry if it takes a while for me to answer but I'm about 5-7 hours ahead of you guys so.. :)

GEN I and GEN II both have back torque limiting clutches. There isn't a difference.

Sorry, but sometimes my tech english sucks...
Back torque clutch, that's not the same as a slipper clutch right?
Back torque clutch is the same as lockup right?
I thought Suzuki removed that from 03 and onwards.. ???

the two piece hub is the same for the gen 1 & gen 2. Get yourself whatever year two piece hub to replace the welded or one piece in your bike.

Seriously? ::11

What is it that the 08 has that my 99 doesn't have since the 08 is a slipper one??

:poke: what he said...and answer to the above question...shinier bolts from being newer:laugh: heres the pics of both
#5 on the left and number 16 on the right ae the same piece so no difference, but that is what someone welded together on your bike...

wouldnt it be cool if they made the slipper part in the rear wheel itself so in essence it would free wheel in one direction like 10 speed bikes used to do

But but but.... D@mn... :(
I thought that since it was talk about the 08 having a slipper clutch
it would be a totally different design.. Not just that back torque limiter POS..
It's not welded though.. it's a little thing you put in between part 4 &5 in Fig 21 that holds the "lockuparms" away.. But I'm not removing that mod..
The unwanted wheelies and the sound of something breaking inside is not something I want back..

Thanks for you help guys clarifying everything for me!

not very many bikes have came stock with a true slipper clutch. no busa ever has. the BTL has been mislabeled by a lot of people as a slipper clutch, but it isnt.
