Gen II motor noise

Need some help diagnosing an issue:

Background: ’08 Hayabusa with basic bolt-on modifications used exclusively as a drag bike (stock motor, pump gas, etc). Bike tipped over in the pits, cosmetic damage only. Start up the bike to double-check, warm it up, no issues so I prepare to make a ¼ mile pass. Pass feels solid, quick and the bike is moving. Shift into 5th gear and I feel as if there is a loss of power (not all power, just not pulling as hard as it should be). About the time I think this is a weird situation, there is a fast paced clanking coming from the motor. At this point I grab the clutch, kill the motor and coast off onto the return road. I remove my helmet and examine the bike for a moment and cannot spot any visible issues. I restart the bike in neutral and the clanking once again occurs at idle, so I shut off the motor.

At this point I have drained the oil (didn’t see anything unusual in the 3.5 quarts that came out), pulled the oil pan (didn’t see anything) and have removed the clutch basket (again nothing out of the ordinary that I can see).

Anyone have some advice on what to check?

You stated didnt pull as hard in 5th.
Thats an opinion which can be altered by the mind..
What was your MPH? did it drop off?
Noise... looking into my magical crystal ball while humming..................noise.............. hmmmmmm have you used a stestascope to pinpoint the noise your hearing?

I ask you this because many years ago I had a weld break on Vance and Hines Sidewinder exhaust in transport to a race while in the trailer.. I started the bike once I arrived at the track and heard a knocking noise the noise increased with the engine RPM... I didnt race cause I had no idea what the issue was, I wasnt smart enough back then and make a run to see if the MPH dropped off on a pass. I loaded the bike back up.. When I got th bike home and loaded up on the service stand I placed my hand on the pipe when started it.. The noise went away then I found the found the break which was against the frame causing the noise...
Trouble shoot!!

Always love the question

Yeah, it could be all mental with the slowing, but it did make a noise both in gear at speed and at idle. The pass was aborted once I heard to noise so it went 8.8x at 14x MPH.

I know it's more then a long shot in the dark stating "I have a noise" but I am darn near out of options short of pulling the motor out and having it torn apart. And if it's getting torn apart, why not put some nice parts in it while its apart?! That all cost money. I'm happy with 8.70's and 8.80's at 150+ MPH for now on a stock motor and pump gas.

I had hoped to find something easy right off the bat, no such luck so the search continues...

I am just saying... we are on the internet so I am not there to troubleshoot..

Since you stated the bike fell over, something could be vibarating making a noise which may seem like an engine issue.
You also didnt state if the noise is coming from the top end or low end which can be diagnosed with a screwdriver and an ear pin pointing the issue. So what are you asking? No video either, no compression reading, no results of an oil test after testing.. Nothing you heard a noise and now ya would like ideas? How about some more effort from you?

This is like calling an auto parts store asking for a silver colored part do you have one?
What year what model what type etc where is it located?
Not enough detailed information no correct troubleshooting

Buy some earplugs....

If I couldn't find something obvious, have someone ride the bike or put it on dyno, the top end of the motors are notoriously weak, id start there when you narrow down any external issues

Bike rode fine. Put it away for the night. Next day fired her up to go for a ride. From the clutch area the bike made an god awful sound. Took the cover off and discovered that one of the clutch spring bolts had come loose and started to grind against the clutch cover.

Well, the motor came out and I began to tear it down. Before pulling the cams and the head off, I ran the valves, and one was WAY too tight. Pulled the head off and found this:

Dropped (broke) an exhaust valve in number 1. Looks like the valve stayed put for a while bouncing on top of the piston before it rotated 90 degrees and got jammed into the head.
