Gen2 Obsolete

I like my Gen2 K9 enough, don’t have the desire to replace it with anything else.

But although my bike still looks brand new, it is now a 15 year old bike.

Can’t help to wonder how long Suzuki will support the bike with OEM parts though, before it becomes obsolete and maintenance as well as repairs becomes an issue?

Almost everything mechanical is the same on the gen3...
That's interesting isn't it. After all these years. Makes me wonder if we haven't reached the peak of innovation with motorcycles, at least for a long time? It certainly seems that way with cell phones and digital cameras, incremental improvements but nothing like the revolution that took the mobile phone from what it was in 2000 to what it was in 2008 thereabouts. The big changes on the Busa, traction control etc is all old tech, BMW had that on their flagship back in 2010.

The bikes are really 25 years old. Mime is an ‘06, made in ‘05 and sold in ‘06, 18 years old. Kiwi has a ‘99.

Hell my Honda is 42 years old. Try sourcing parts for that! :D

Manufacturers don’t give a crap about us after a few years of ownership. They want us to buy new, bikes, cars, phones, whatever.

In my experience the Japanese brands tend to have parts available for much longer than european. I recently bought a 2001 Honda Valkyrie and I don't have any issues finding parts for it. My 95 VFR750 I had I never issues finding parts for it sub the fairings. My Dad and I rebuilt a 80 suzuki GS1000 we had no issues finding replacement parts for it. With how long the Hayabusa has been out, how long each generation has been out, and the subtle changes between each generation (Gen2/Gen3). I feel support is going to be for many more years, so I would not worry at all for supporting parts on these bikes.

As much as I agree with this, I am sad to say it no longer always holds true.
I work on alot of Japanese bikes and fourwheelers, and have for many years.
Recently, in the last few years, I am finding more and more oem parts that are no longer available, and things that you think would/should be.
Even alot of Gen1 parts are no longer available from Suzuki.
Scrolling through Partzilla or any oem source has become a gamble, to see if a part is still available.
Fortunately the aftermarket covers some of these, but others are a no go.
A friend's dad wanted the carburetor rebuilt in his '87 Honda Fourtrax, and only wanted Honda parts.
I said no problem, then uh-oh, we have a problem...all discontinued...including later models with the same carburetor.
Oh well, is what it is I guess.
The local Honda dealer told me that Honda is only required to provide parts for 25 years, and after that, good luck.

I recall years ago trying to get parts for my old flip up Katana.....the parts guy said things were getting less available for that bike. I got some of the last available parts in Canada for that bike.....

The less popular or more rare the bike, the less parts are available it seems.
