General wire management advice and identification

Hey everyone,

Been doing some work on my Busa, and Im trying to put all the stuff back together. Long story short, the first owner of this bike did a lot of hack wiring. Like they installed aftermarket taillights and they didnt solder anything, just wrapped the wires and together and electrical taped it... Any way I've been going through everything and fixing it properly.
Some things I have come across lately that Im not sure about and was hoping people could chime in.

When I turn the key on, but before I start the bike, the gauge cluster says CHEC, it changes over to the clock when I start the bike. That normal or is the bike giving me a check engine light? if so how do I diagnose?:

This is on the right side of the bike under the handle bar. Cant seem to find what it plugs into. All the lights and turnsignals and horn seem to be working without it plugged in:

Do hayabusas usually have a cover that wraps around the gauge cluster? seems odd to me that all these wires and the fuse box just sits exposed like this. If it does, my bike didnt have it when I bought it.

And finally, what is this knob thing? should I tie that up out of the way?

Thanks in advance, this forum has been very helpful in my rebuild efforts. Im hoping to get this on the road soon.

Your bike is missing the infill panels that surround the dash and cover the fuse box and relays.

That “knob thing” is to adjust the idle speed. It sits in a retaining bracket but it’s missing from your bike.

Get the manual, it will be very useful for the work that needs to be done on your bike.
Also, use mega zip for parts diagrams and listings.

It’s no 7 and no 8 on the diagram.
Also, re the chec indication, here’s how to check the ECU
for logged fault codes...

Darn, there is a bit more fairing pieces missing than I thought when I bought the bike... Well, doesnt seem like replacing them will be too bad.

Thanks for the links, Ill see what that diagnostic trick comes up with. Maybe that idle speed adjuster is why it stalls when I down-throttle too quickly...
