Going into the motor S1000RR.

For those that are interested I am putting the Bimmer in the shop to test the limits. I want the most aggressive S1000rr without going turbo, stretching, and that is still streetable. I will take some process pictures as the bike is coming along. I love projects :)

What are your expectations of achievable HP?

Curious as to what internal upgrades you are making?

Engine builder or BMW dealership doing the work?

Good Luck on your project. Keep us posted.

Engine builder who is well known here in South Florida. He recently did a S1000rr and said I need to get the race ECU for them to take advantage off all the work he is going to do. Pistons, Cams, Springs, Bore out the motor, bump compression, etc. I will have more detailed information tomorrow.

That will be interesting. One of the strengths of the Busa is that it is built like a tank and has alot of un-tapped potential. Seems like the things you are talking about would have to limit streetability in some way, especially the compression ratio might require racing fuel.

I will be very interested to see what the outcome of this is - good luck and keep us posted!

Crazy Arch has a really good point. You can get yourself into a precarious position with requiring race fuel ($15 gal) just to fire the heifer up and find you have to pump the tank dry and run the fuel system dry before you leave it overnight.

Sounds like you are not really sure of what you are getting into? Correct me if I am wrong. I would suggest you get the exact details of your builders specs and present that to another builder or two for advise.

This could turn into something extremely expensive and end up being something you didn't bargain for. Arm yourself with information before stepping into deep water is your best asset to keep from drowning.

On a side note it seems BMW has put a halt on 2012 s1000R sales for some kind of engine recall......again. I'm open to all brands but honestly the troubles they had with the 1000 since the beginning scares me. I thought BMW was supposed to have pretty good quality control? Maybe its just the car division?

I already let him know I want a streetable bike. Just something a bit more aggressive. This is not his first S1000rr build. I not building a bike for the drag strip that requires race fuel.

You probably should seriously consider the Ecu Unleashed tune file flash for your stock ecu. It will do everything the race ecu will do - and more - for less . . .

what problems have they experienced?
You name it they've pretty much had it. Camshaft recall issues and failures on the first couple years, some some lower end engine issues, lots of constant software recall upgrades for driveability problems, intermittent engine shut down problems from ecu issues, multiple diff electrical problems, and others I've forgotten lol. The most recent is another major engine issue, improper lower rod bolt torque I think? They haven't seemed to be a buy and ride machine like the japanese supersports. I was considering one but just too many problems and recalls always popping up.
Awesome machine if they could just give it a rep for solid reliability.

Your previous post didn't sound like a mild upgrade to give it a little more spunk?

Just a thought but if I were you I'd go search that other customer out and ask him for a recommendation and maybe even see if you could tweak a ride. There is nothing worse than ending up with something that's no fun to ride and no one but the builder has any idea on what you have or how to tune it?

I have decided against it.
Part of what Tuf was trying to say I think is that the BMW 1000 is already pushed to the bleeding edge as far as tuning goes, mega-high compression, mega-lightweight and thin engine internals, mega-high redline.
Thats also why its so mega-fast stock  Unfortunately I don't think BMW left a lot of room for getting more performance and still keep it completely streetable and reliable. I understand wanting more from your bike tho, thats why I boosted my 14. Some bikes just don't give you quite as much room to work with tuning wise as others.
If you want the BIG RUSH get a busa or 14 and boost it, it would cost close to what you were going to spend anyway, and done right either one can be very reliable. You could also just stick an exhaust, filter, pc, some cams and gearing on your BMW and call it stoopid fast. Leave the bore, compression, and redline alone, and keep the ability to use everyday pump fuel and maintain the stock reliability. Plus it would be way cheaper than your original plans. There's always a compromise that can be made......if your willing
