If a fire destroyed your home and all of your belongings, what would you do? If you could take out three things before the blaze, what would they be? (Assuming there is no one in the house at the time of the fire, and for some reason the Busa is parked safely down the street.)

~Me...#1 I would take all my pictures...23 years worth of memories, I couldnt live with out them.
#2...My daughters Memory box all the stuff from when she was born, and as she's grown.
#3...My mothers Urn (sp)...I lost one in a fire, I wouldnt want to lose another.

To me, everything else can be replaced, clothes jewls...furniture...
Plus I dont think I own much else!...lol.

Assuming my family (Including the Busa) is safe...

1) Can I get the dirtbikes out of the garage?

2) Tools out of the garage. (Yeah I know...)

3) Computer which has all of our records etc..

I'm with you on two of these Carrie...Mothers!

#1 would be all of my childrens' pictures; they can't be replaced!
#2 would be the memory chest of my boys' things from when they were born and things I've been saving as they grow
#3 would be a teddy bear that is as old as I am...he's up in my closet, one button eye because he was mauled by a neighbor's dog when I was just 4 or 5! Anyway, it's kind of corny, but "he's" the one thing I've had my entire life, and he looks it! I'd be devastated if I lost him!

Okay, stop laughing!!!

I feel ya on that one! My mom gave me a teddy bear when i was 6...then I let my nephew use it when he was little, cause he never knew my mom...then when Abbi was born one night he came in and snuck it in her crib...
He told me that since Abbi didnt get to know her Grandma...she should have it now.
AWWWWWWW

You know we're going to get reamed for this thread, don't you?!

I've been there and I don't want to ream anyone.

I wish it was as easy as picking a few things.  3 weeks after my 10th birthday (2 months after christmas), while our family was out of town, our house burnt down.  We had absolutely nothing left, I mean nothing.

I had the clothes on my back and fond memories of the toys that I had just received.  I had 4 brothers and 1 sister, so we were all pretty bummed out.  Insurance didn't cover much and didn't provide money for us to find a temporary place to live.

Thank God for the fine friends my partents had.  They let all 8 of us move in with the 5 of them for a couple of months.  It was tough, but we survived.  My life is very different because of that fire, new school, new jobs, new friends and a change from city to country living.

Sometimes I wonder what I would be doing if that fire hadn't happened.  Would I own a Busa?  Who knows.

PS- Thanks to all the folks that help out those in need.  It's easy to give an excuse and not help, but it takes real character to step up and help out even when you know it may be tough.

Boy, do I feel materialistic now or what?!?

OK, OK

1) My ex took all the baby picturew (& lost em!  BIOTCH!) So I'd get all the current family pictures.

2) my kids first locks of hair from their first hair cuts (Yes I have them)

3) my kids baby teeth. (yes I have them)

Satisfied, I'm back to Mr. Mom now.  I should also grab my new sewing machine if I have time.

Gee, is that estrogen I smell?

And Yes Pac-man is going to want to shave your teddy bears!

Ok – I am probably going to get slammed for this.. and I have never been in that situation so I cannot speak from “personal experienceâ€

The experience I can speak from however is from having numerous friends that are in law enforcement, work as EMT’s, work for a fire department. My training in the Marine Corps for fire fighting. All the CPR classes I have been through.

If there is a fire in your house. Get out. The ONLY reason to go into a burning house in my opinion is to save a life. If there is nothing living in the house, forget it. Don’t go back in.

Smoke can over take a person in a heart beat, heat can over whelm a person in a heart beat.

If you go back into a burning house you stand the chance if it being dark and on top of it being dark your eyes are starting to water from the smoke which is going to make it harder to see, then between having poor visibility because of lack of light due to smoke and the tears in your eyes, now add in the heat which all those combined with cause you to be disoriented.

Now, with smoke in your eyes, smoke in the house making it difficult to see, and the heat all of which will have you begin to panic because you are becoming disoriented, who is to say even if you CAN find your way back through the path you came that it will not be blocked by the time you try to go back.

A lot of victims of fires were out of the burning building, they died because they went back in.

You can replace pictures, if baby;s teeth were that important they would not have came out in the first place.

Point is, memory’s are in the past, we are not supposed to live in the past anyway, live for the future. And you wont have no future if you do because you want to live in the past.

Hope I don’t upset anyone or offend anyone, I just hate hearing about someone losing their life because they went back after a material item.

Just my two cents….

Mikey -

1) Can I get the dirtbikes out of the garage?

Insurance - get new dirt bikes

2) Tools out of the garage. (Yeah I know...)

Insurance - get new tools

3) Computer which has all of our records etc..

Of site storage. I carry a USB drive in my pocket that contains all my important data on my computer (most docuemnts including tax records),

I also have two DVD's one is kept in my fire proof safe in my computer room, one is kept in my safe deposit box at the bank. I burn 2 DVD's every month and the DVD contains 4.8 gb of pictures, documents and tax records.

VA -

1) Almost all of my pictures are digitized and stored on off site media. Most of the pictures hanging in our house are from my computer that I printed out on special high gloss print paper

2) memory chest of your boys.. Yeah that would suck

3) Your teddy bear would suck also. but you would be devisated if you lost it, but your family would be there to comfort you, if you die and they lose you because you tried to get your teddy bear you family is going to be devistated and who is going to comfort them? you cant be replaced dear.

BEFORE THE BLAZE....

And I understand the whole living for the future thing...but without a past you have no future...

Oh yeah that was a good one!! 5 cool points for me!

Thrasher...you have yet to answer this "theoretical" question...you're over-analyzing it...I think the point is "what is there in your house that God forbid, you might risk losing, yet had a chance to save?"

tounge.gif

Oh, and about my pics...I too have most of them on disk, but I also have two scrap books that I have spent countless hours making for both of my boys...if I lost it, there's no way I could replace it...one took me nearly 2 years to finish...

OK.

1. Porn Collection... Took a long time to get it just right...
cool.gif

2. The Booze off the top of the Fridge... Man thats my Scotch collection...
3. My Membership card to Mons Venus (Strip Club) oh and a couple packs of smokes...

OK OK....

Seriously.

1. Art work, Lots of original Paintings and some sculpture... It's insured but irreplaceable...
2. Lilah and my riding gear, or at least my leather.
3. THE wallet, everything is cool if I have my wallet, all the information I need, and the means to get going again.

1) Rev's porn collection that I plan on asking him for a copy of

Seriously.. three things.

Out of the house?

1) Pictures
2) Guns
3) My computer. All the other computers in the house are slaves to mine. Mine contains all critical data.

Ok, is that better Michelle?

Thrasher,

I agree wiht you 100%.

NO way to go into or dwell in a burning house to get materialistic stuff. My answer was theoretically what I'd like to save first.

You da man Thrasher!

Three things huh.

1. Yes, I too have a teddy, Koala Bear that was given to me by my mother when I was 4 years old. She passed away when I was 10 and I have kept the bear ever sense. So that one eyed, nose hanging off, neck ripped Koala in the closet will be the first thing I take. (Dauther is going to get it when she is older) And No Pac, you cant shave my Bear...

2. My daughters Minny Mouse woobie. Dont know what she would do without it.

3. Finally my family pictures, paying special attention to the baby pictures and wedding pictures. (wont hear the end of it if I only got the baby pictures not the wedding pictures)

All My really valuable documents, Passports, Birth Certs, credentials, titles to the Car and Bike, etc... The real important stuff, lives in a fireproof safe in the office. It's rated pretty highly and I am certain will withstand a typical house fire.

I fyou can afford it, get yourself a FireKing 2 or Four Drawer Safe. Keeps your computer records, important docs etc, safe...
