Got an OHMmeter?

This is my first post and might I say I am very impressed with everyone here. I have recently purchased a 2001 Busa for $7560 in Rochester NY area(new to the area). Having moved up from the Gsxr 750 I am very impressed with its top end...... I am not impressed with its low to low-midrange power.

I have read many articles about the exhaust, Power Commanders,TRE's etc.. I'm an electrical engineer and consider myself to be a bit of a tinkerer, so I decided to add my own switching TRE the device works flawlessly on the bench, However... when I install it the bike idle drops from 1100 down to 950rpm +/-. I thought it was supposed to go up to 1300 or so. to test my theory I replace my TRE with the 6.8K resistor and it acted the same.

Now here is what I need. When I measure the Resistance between the Open circuit wire and ground it seems to be ~6.8 K but when the Circuit is completed with the wire to the ECU the resistance at that connection to ground drops to approx 1K . Can anyone Verify this with me?

Thanks

Denwa, yeah got an ohm meter - just nowhere near my bike right now

I have made a couple of TREs for me and my buddy who rides an SV1000. In my experience idle drops with the TRE on so what you are seeing is what I would expect.

Just to make sure I understand you: You are measuring resistance between the ground (black) and GPS (pink) on the ECU side and getting 1k ohm with your resistor in circuit? Did you cut ground or just tap into it?

What I do is tap into ground, cut GPS and hook resistor between GPS and Ground (ECU side) leaving GPS open (Gearbox side) Well, I say cut but I managed to get connectors from Suzuki so I just plug the TRE in - makes it easy to go back to stock.

I will go and measure this evening and let you know.

Dutchie,

Thanks for looking for me. I am just Tapping into the black wire by means of connector I did not sever the wire.

I have a 6.8K resistor btwn the pink wire and black. The GPS side is disconected.

I am develeping an Active TRE which should allow you to specify(with fine tune accuracy) what gear map you run in and then do it automatically while not affecting the Neutral map. Also an ON/OFF switch. Any other Idea's you'd like to see?

thanks

there is already one like that on the market but go for it. but remember there is no need for a TRE anyway

Denwa, I completely forgot to check last night - I'll see if I can slip home and measure it quick.

Johnnycheese - I know but there is satisfaction to be had from tinkering

And a DIY plug-in,removable on/off switchable TRE only costs around $10 - the Suzuki connectors being the most expensive part.

that is what I said there is already one out for cheap that does that but heck that is free market if you can do one for less than 30.00 go for it and still make money

Like Johnny said, however enjoy the tinkerig, just don't make too many.

Denwa - I finally got 'round to it the weekend. You are correct, when measuring between the GPS wire and ground on the ECU side with a 6.8k ohm resistor plugged in I get about 1.23 ~ 1.25 k ohm.

Johnny, Ninja, I am just making this for myself and a friend or two. I don't sell them, I trade them for beer

. It's a bit tricky getting some things down here and shipping costs from the 'States are huge.
