My goodness, today was like a spring day here in Western Washington, 57 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. I still wore my long johns but the day was great. I took my Gixxer 1K out on some familiar back roads and just rode that puppy to death on the back tire, mostly sit downs but a few stand ups as well. There are no safe places around close to home that I can get in more than about a mile and a half before I come to a kink in the road or an intersection that is not condusive to wheelies. So I just make do with what I have. I have one fun stretch between an entersection and the stop sign at the end of the road which is about a mile and a half with only two farm houses along the way. It has two gentle curves and several hills and valleys to enjoy. I brought the wheelie monster up at the intersection in low gear, quickly shifted to second and when I reached the point of backing off the throttle to intercept a loop, I shifted into third and just cruised at about 7 - 8 thousand RPM's and 90 mph or so. Over the hills and through the dips, leaned my body weight to my left to negociate the frist curve then leaned to my right to negociate the second turn and bingo, before I know it, I'm staring at the stop sign some 300 ft ahead. I dropped the tire, applying the needed throttle on the way down to insure a soft landing and gently applied the front brake. As the speed decreased to 60, I lifted my bum off the seat and applied the brake more aggressively until I felt the rear tire lift off the pavement. As it came up higher I focused my eyes on the horrizon in the distance as not to become afixated on the pavement in front of me. I adjusted the front brake to keep her balanced until I came to a full stop, as the rear tire plunged back to earth, I used my legs as shock absorbers, the touch down felt like a gift from heaven. At that moment, I thrusted my right fist in the air and with a blood curdling scream "YES", I knew life was grand. I had a smile on my face like a wave on a slop bucket for the rest of the day. Damn, I love this life!
I dearly love my busa but it just doesn't wheelie like the Gixxer does! The busa will do it, but it takes a lot more effort.
I hope my discription of a wonderful afternoon on two wheels, brought a smile to someones face out there? My smile is still beaming
