Got some newbie questions.

I picked up my busa last thursday and have put 300 miles on it. the bike is amazing. these questions may be dumb but i will ask anyway.

the bike pulls so hard in first and second do i cannot seem to use the clutch to shift. i think i am just afraid of letting go of the bars. is it just something i have to get use to or do you guys not use the clutch to shift?

do you even redline first and second or do you short shift it?

The bike does pull hard and gives you the mindset that it's unsafe to change the position of your hands but once you get used to it it's 2nd nature working the clutch lever will be a 2nd thought...Is your bike new or used...I asked because if it new you shouldn't be redlining in any gear...As far as shifting some clutch and some power just depends on your style either is fine...

I shift around 5k most of the time, unless I am ripping on it. You will get used to it sooner or later so just try short shifting for a while. As long as its not a hard shift, you really dont need to cluch it to up shift. Besides if you redline 1st and 2nd you are breaking just about all the speed limit laws.

I short shift between 4 and 5K.

its not new. used. has about 900 and something on her though. i think 1000 is the break in and its close enough to that.

Use the force, Luke

You'll find the weight of your hand should naturally pull the clutch in as the bike nears the 12 o'clock wheelie position....

Don't bother clutch shifting on up-shifts, unless you are not getting on it at all...

Bike shifts up in gears, and for that matter down in gears, effortlessly, without clutch...just a little blip up and down, and away you go.

just use two fingers on the clutch. That way you never really let go of the bars.

You need a little more seat time....it will become a natural thing to do in time

I dont do clutchless up-shifts, but its pretty safe to do it if you want to!! And that feeling that you will get seperated from the bike... oh well, you get used to it

Hang on

cool thanks for all the feedback. i think i was the same way on my 600 when i got that. but grew comfortable with it in a few weeks. dont know if i will ever be comfortable with the power of this monster.

No need for the clutch on the way up, just roll off a bit and click, smooth as silk. Try it once, not under heavy acceleration. You will see what we mean.

+1 very well said shifts like a dream click click click shid i'm goingway to fast already, real fast clickclick slow down, back at speed limit 70, and you know its happens way faster than it just took you to read this sentence. LOL

Time out! You guys don't use the clutch at all when running up through the gears?! And it doesn't strain the tranny? Wow! I gotta try that!

thats what i have been doing, shifting without the clutch when i am on it. it is silky smooth shifting but i dont want to damage the trans at all. some have told me that it is not good for the forks.
