GPS Tracking Device for your Busa?

I've been contemplating this lately and no particular unit jumps out at me. I am not a fan of LoJack at all, so it's out of the question. Any other setups you guys like? I'd prefer to not pay a monthly fee of course.

Won't a GPS tracking device only work outside? Not seeing it help at all. :dunno:

Get a cheap cell phone, iPhone would be best, add it to your plan and hard wire power to the phone so it always stays charged and on. If you bike ever comes up missing just use "where's my iPhone" and wha-la your bike is found.

It's also good to bury the phone deep in the bike some where so no one will find it till they try to take the bike apart. Also way cheaper then buying a device.

Spot Tracker is what I use. When I travel it knows where I am. When I sleep, and they steal the bike, I track them.

The cell phone idea is smart but I'm more into being Proactive rather than being reactive. By the time you track down your bike if in fact you are going to be able to at all the bike could be wrecked, or chopped up and being sold off on forums and ebay. Besides the fact, say you do manage to track it to a house or garage. What are you gonna do barge in there and demand your bike back from the criminals that stole it? Might not be beneficial to the health of you or your bike.... By the time you locate it snoop around go and get the police it can be thrown in a truck and taken to another location so your back at square 1. Buy a 2way motorcycle alarm, buy a front or rear motorcycle disc lock, always lock your steering column and if that's not enough buy a kryptonite chain and run it through the swing arm and attach it to something immovable. It won't stop thieves but it'll make them think twice and perhaps look for an easier target.

Good suggestions here, thanks guys.

Looks pretty nice. Which device and which plan do you use?

Wow that's pretty trick. I'm gonna look deeper into it. Do you have that one? If so, how do you like it?

I'm into BOTH. There is probably $20k in aftermarket parts in my bike and I'd sure never get that back from the insurance company. Insurance is already higher than I think it should be, asking them to cover all the special parts would be totally out of the question.

Why yes actually....Fortunately for me, it'll be just another day at the office ;)

exactly. they are worthless when brought inside a garage or building which is where most stolen bikes end up.

Lojack is a FAR better choice IF lojack is available in ur area. Lojack is radio based and when the police locate a stolen bike via Lojack they can zero in on it with a handheld device that is acurate within 10 feet. (accurate enough to get a search warrant)

if you have GPS its only accurate within a couple hundred feet and absolutely worthless in an apartment complex cause the police cant get a search warrant on 50 different apartments....

same goes for a cell phone that has tracking on it. the police get calls all the time on stolen Iphones and they are just not accurate and could be one one of 10 houses in a general vacinity. worthless!

I have yet to see a Lojack activated stolen motorcycle NOT recovered once the signal is sent out. there is a reason Lojack has over a 90% recovery rate within 24 hours.

and Lojack has no monthy fee. any decent GPS tracking system will have a fee.

LoJack sucks in this area and most agencies in my area have only 1-2 cars equipped with LoJack. CHP has more units but that's about it. Like I said, LoJack is out of the question for my area.

I looked at trying to do something like these a while ago... my bigest problem is that you need both GPS signal and cell signal.

some of the cooler features I have seen:
a motion alarm (not vibration, the bike moving) that sends you a text
of course real time tracking
if they loose gps, they store the most recent location
if power is cut, send you a text

heck some of these are cheap enough, I may try one. Just get a $20 phone from a pay as you go plan, and give it a shot...
something like one of these:
Mini GSM GPRS GPS SOS Alarm SMS Network Vehicle Motorcycle Monitor Tracker | eBay

Thats what I have, a 2way alarm with motion sensor installed on my bike. If it is bumped or moved it goes ballistic, also has microwave sensor that picks up continuous movement around it for more than 30 seconds it will give a couple chirps to let you know "ok you've looked now keep it moving".

There's a thread around on the cell phone system. There's no fool proof system. Be smarter than the criminals. Most go for opportunities, don't give them one.

#1busa, what alarm are you using? Thanks.

I was looking into trying to get a plan, and looking at who had the best coverage. Well of the networks that support these things AT&T seems to be the best (no good if you don't have coverage), but they don't have a very friendly plan for something like this. No one there knows what you are talking about, and the cheapest plan they could tell me, was $25 a month. All I need is a hand full of texts a month.....

Gps tracking system is very helpful to find and track your vehicle at anytime and anywhere. I think this service is important for everyone. If you people need any help in making gps tracking sysrtem for any vehicle then ask anything and contact with me.

Best deterrent (believe it or not) is a cover and is proven more effective then lock and no cover....
