Hey just thought i would see if any of you other orgsters have great danes? I do and love the breed. I am active in rescue and i havent found another dog i love as much as these guys. Talk about a loyal sensitive breed. Here are a couple pics of my boyz!! Titan is the black 165 lbs and 36 inches at shoulders rajah is the brindle 135 lbs and 38 inches at the shoulders.
Both are a little over a year and will grow till they are 3 years!

Hey I agree love these, have had two in my time both Faun's. Sadly no longer with us, if I had the space and time would have another in heart beat. Great look g dogs you've got.

nice lookin' dogs but the glow eyes are freaking me out! :poke::laugh: it must cost a lot to feed those 2. i have an english mastiff myself but i believe there temperament are similar to the Danes. i wouldn't trade him in for the world. "Gentle Giants" :beerchug:

Very nice dogs ! I have "extra large" dogs myself, 2 Japanese Tosa's (mastiff) and like you said gentle giants. Great Danes are great companions.

My ex has one, she's right about 180 pounds, sweetest dog i've ever met...except she thinks she weighs 20lbs and jumps in laps accordingly:laugh:

not me i got 2 rotts...love danes though few of my customers have them..one was black and white brindle..never seen such a thing..was cool

lol...yes they are large!! titan is a little bulkier. Rajah is a giant. When i stand him up he is too tall to fit through door ways! I am 6' 3" tall and both are a lot taller then me. I feed titan raw. He eats chicken quarters, steak, burger, liver, pork, you name it meat wise. I just got done chopping a deer up for him sunday. Rajah the brindle eats Taste of the wild. Its a grain free food. Very expensive to feed these guys. I would guess in the neighborhood of 100 a week.

I've had two danes, one was 14 yrs old and the other 16 yrs old... great dogs when we had to put each one down for health issues... Gentle giants for sure..

Here's my dude. Name is Brutus. Passed away earlier this year. Awesome dog. Great personality. Only flaw I could find in this breed is they don't live long enough.

I dont think that White picket fence is enough for those guys, Im thinkin:whistle:

that is funny!!!!! I tell you what if they were an aggressive bred dog there would be no keeping them in any fence. They are stupid strong, im about 215lbs and when they want to go they will go. you should see my 5 ft wife walking them!!! its funny! Yes they are gentle giants for asure.

Wow cap!!!! you had some ooooollllldddd danes. Its very rare for a dane to live past 11. Most unfortunatly tend to pass on at or around 9. They are very prone to bloat and torsion as well as a lot of heart problems etc due to the size and deep chest they have. I tell you what though i will never own another breed. They are the best most gentle creatures with kids. Its like a switch.....my 2 year old daughter could walk either one of my dogs and they will not hurt her or drag her or anything. But an adult they will rough house with etc. She comes into the room and thats it neither will be rough.

Your brindle Rajah looks more like a fawn/brindle mix, which was exactly what my dog Cyrus was. Really beautiful combo that's not too common. With that coloration, Cyrus could just disappear in a field of tall dry grass. He was a pretty good size dog too, 39" at the shoulders and over 180 lbs. Only lived for 7 years, but easily the best dog I've ever owned. Smart, loving, and a great sense of humor. Thanks for bringing back the memories.:beerchug:

Love this thread. I hope it's as good as you guys are saying. I've been stuck on this breed for a while now. Unfortunately, we are still in college and can't have pets where we live but we will have a dane or two within the next few years. Feel free to pass on any advice and info you guys might have. I've poked around the GDCA as well as the AKC for any pertinent information. When the time comes we should be well informed but first hand experience is invaluable..........???

I actually had my Dane in college. My mother went overseas while I was in winter session and I kept Cyrus with me in the dorm room for two weeks. He was quite a celebrity, and it's a good thing the dorm manager liked the dog who was so well behaved. Cyrus drank more beer than he should have. I even took him to classes. During one particularly long stretch of my philosophy professor's lecture, Cyrus let out a huge yawn which got a good laugh. I forget the prof's rejoinder, but he took it in stride.

danes are actually very good apartment dogs as they are a low energy breed if you get a little older one say 2 plus closer to three. They are content to just lay in the house with you and do nothing!!! though they do love to sit anywhere they want and every great now and then they get a case of the zoomies.......Imagine our busa getting a mind of thier own and going full throttle for roughly 5 minutes in zigzagging directions with rapid changes in direction etc....best way to describe i guess its funny ass heck but man it can be dangerous to anything in the way.

man just search zoomies on yutube. You will be smiling. then picture a 170 lbs dog doing it. then if that isnt enough picture 2 danes doing it!!! i have been bowled completly off my feet numerous times by these 2. Combined they weigh over 325 lbs!! when they get moving...it like getting hit by a train!!
