IVE GOT A '96 GSXR1100. I HAVE A BIG BORE KIT IN IT. PROBLEM!!! IM GETTING A SPARK ON #1 IM GETTING GAS IN #1, BUT IT IS NOT FIRING. IM GOING TO RUN A COMPRESSION. CHK ON IT TODAY. YOU MOTO EXPERTS OUT THERE DOES THAT SOUND LIKE IT MIGHT BE THE PROBLEM? NO LEAKS AS FAR AS WATER OR OIL. OR COULD IT BE A VAVLE STICKING? ANYWAY, I WILL ALSO BE NEEDING A HEAD GASKET. DOES ANYONE SELL THEM IN HERE? THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP. ERIC

Check number 2 cylinder. Your gasket could have blown between the cylinders. Also check for voltage arcing from your sprak plug wire. This might happen when the tank is on the bike, but when you take it off to check the arc it might not happen.

I will let you on to a little secret There is about a total of two people in the US that I would trust boreing a water pumper Check your oil and make sure there is not coolant in it I would also recommend copper ringing the sleeves.

Whos that JC?(boreing a water pumper)

I have a 1192 sitting in My garage thats never had any problems. I know who built this motor, I wonder if it's one of these guys your talking about?

GEEEE NICK, U COULD HAVE CALLED ON THAT ONE. I ONLY LIVE 15 MILES FROM YA. I DIDNT GET A CHANCE TO CHK IT THE GUY THAT WAS GOING TO LEND IT TO ME DIDNT SHOW UP TILL LATE. WILL DO IT TOMORROW. DAMN JOHNNY, DONT GIVE ME BAD NEWS ALREADY!!!!! I GOING WITH NICK, I AM GUESSING (hoping) IT IS THE GASKET.

If it is the gasket 98% of the time it will suck water into the oil.
Frank e-mail me
one of the boys is in s.Texas
PS When I see big bore I assume it is resleeved

I wouldve called but it was kinda late.It is possible to blow the gasket between the cylinders and not get any water but it's not likely.Ive only seen it once.My GSXR 1206 had a bad plug wire that arced the spark from the sprak plug wire to the bottom of the tank.It would only happen when I put the tank on.I found out by looking under the tank at night when it was dark. You could see the spark.Johnny was roght about sleeving a water cooled GSXR 1100,It's an art that most guy cant do.I never had a problem out of the cylinders of my 1206 kit.Did you check the voltage? You might have a bad coil.

Jay,

EXACTLY!!!! Just tore down another FZR motor that thought it was a GSXR...you got it, another two piece crank. This one had STOCK bore, was 140-145rwhp. Luckily no case damage, other than scuffed thrust surface.

IM GETTING A SPARK FROM THE COIL. COULD IT BE NOT ENOUGH SPARK? I STILL HAVE YET TO DO THE COMPRESSION TEST THIS AHOLE HAS NOT GIVEN IT TO ME YET. BUT IM GOING TO TAKE THE HEAD OF TOMORROW MORNING.ANOTHER THOUGHT I HAD IF THE CAMS ARE NOT DEGREED RIGHT AND THE VALVE IS OPEN ON NUMBER ONE A LITTLE, WILL THAT AFFECT THE COMPRESSION ON ONE? THANKS FOR THE HELP GUYS I WANT THAT BIKE RUNNING!!!!!!!

If cam timing was off all cylinders would be affected. Get the compression checked. If you think it's the coil swap them. Usually a bad coil drops TWO cylinders. Could be a bad plug cap. Has the bike sat a while?? Check the pilot circuit on that cylinder.

Also your headgasket can leak and NOT mix water/oil. It will overfill the overflow usually, but will start/run OK. This is 1st symptom of bad headgasket. When it gets real bad it may mix water/oil. JC is on the money about H2O "R's" and gasket/sleeve problems...real common.

We do a good number of resleeved water cooled block. Lots of 907 GSXR750s. Some like the 907 work well, some fair, some we could not get to work at all. The best example of the latter was the YZF750 Yamaha.

As for the GSXRw motors, that kit is not as popular as it used to be. In the '96 or97 season, road racer Chuck Graves ran a GSXR750 with an 1192 1100 motor in it. We did all of them for him.,

The problem we encountered with them was that under such extreme racing condition like he was subjecting them to, the sleeves would move, front to back as there is not much aluminum holding them in place. This would cause the head gaskets to start to leak. Between every race weekend, we would have to surface the blocks to seal them up again. Kind of a pain, but the things were awful fast and he won WSMC unlimited championship that season.
