Can someone explain why the latter GSXR water cooled versions of the 1100 seem so flat and down on power compared to the older air and oil cooled models. The magazine tests actually show favor to the water cooled versions but in the real world it seems as if the older models are stronger. I never see any at the strip that perform, can they successfully be modified like the older models?

I own a 95 GSXR 1100 that has been bored to 1206cc and the crank stroked 5mm for a total of 1306cc.The Watercooled head flows better than the Oil/Air cooled bikes. You can get just as much horsepower from a Watercooled bike than you can from the Air/Oil cooled bikes but with less CCs.The Watercooled motors are lighter and smaller. The Stock 95 GSXR 1100 had 130 horsepower. You have to remember that Suzuki detuned the Watercooled bikes for the street. The European version came with bigger cams and 40mm Mikuni carbs, this version had 143 horsepower at the rear wheel.

the watercooled models definately have a better crank than the 1127s. One thing is the watercooled motors are much heavier than the air cooled. Well as for bumping up horsepower that depends on what you want to do. The watercooled can only be bored so much ....the aircooled can go really big. But nevertheless if you go forced induction.(turbo or nitrous) it doesnt matter because they are both going to fly!!
for example Turbo Ricks gsxr 350+ hp.Turocharged! John Noonans(JE Pistons Turbo gsxr 270hp both of these are air cooled motors. The you have Kent Stotz old 95 gsxr turbo(watercooled) 1117cc 450+hp!!!!
If you have the money go with a turbo!! If you dont go with nitrous.
