I guess its bound to happen sooner or later but I had my rear tire blow out on the ride home Friday night/Sat. morning around 230am coming down the interstate. Fortunately I wasnt going too fast, about 70-80ish when I started to feel the back end get a little wobbly and seemed to sit down a bit. Sure enough when I got to the bottom of the ramp the tire was flat as a pancake

So now I need some advice on what to replace it with. I have heard Metzlers are fantastic but really want to hear what folks run on theirs. I drive mostly to work and back, highway speeds with a few good curvy roads tossed in for flavor

but also like to play on the weekends. I dont see me back at Deals Gap before the fall, but having something good for riding the twisties and higher speed passes would be ideal. I had a Dunlop208 on the back and stock on the front so I'll be replacing the front as well.

Thanks in advance for any comments/suggestions on what to look for.

First of all thank God your guardian angel was accompanying you. The blow out thing is definitely something we should be aware of.

As for tires, being that I'v only used Metzeler Sportec M1s I'm a little biased. I will say that they grab like crazy in all weather patterns and curves as well. I can lean with the best of em with these bad boys. Seems like Metzelers and Bridgestones are at the top of most everyone's list. Again glad you're safe, Be blessed.

After i took off the stockers i used the bt 010's . they stick very well, but i only got 2000 miles on them. I also did quite a few burnouts, wetc. but still thought they should have lasted a little while longer. I just ordered a set of pirelli diablos. BUt IMHO i wanted to try the Pilot sports, but they were backordered. But they are made for hyperbikes like the busa. If you can get a pair of the pilot sports give those a try.

Long long list. Every maor mfg. has good tires. bg question did you like what was on the bike? If so go with the same again. Plus is the front good?

The 208 was good, but it wasnt my first choice when I got it, more like what they had at the time. The front is the stock tire, probably has some miles left on it but its got 6K+ on it so I figure as long as I'm doing it I might as well see whats out there. I think my dealer has some kinda deal with replacing both as well.

I wanted to get the Metzlers but I hear they are outta stock, so I'll have to order anything to put back on it.

Thanks for the suggestions so far!

I now have 400 miles on my Diablo corsa's, this will be my tire from now on. Again, depends totally what type of riding you do. I am a high speed twisties rider, love the corsas. A rider doing more straight line or drag racing would wear the corsa's middle out too quickly and they are really expensive....

I wanna check out the avon 45/46 combo have been hearing exellent things about them... stick well and great mileage out of the rear 6000 miles +
i will be tryn a set when mine wears out ...

zukracer,

Glad to hear you're OK. Let me know what you finally go with.

Any damage to the rim?

I am absolutly a Michelin Pilot Sport HPX man.
Awesome tire, they also have a new model out called the Pilot Power which are replacing the Sports.
Been looking high and low for them but they aren't here yet.
Getting at least 3500 out of the rears.
I got mine at discount motorcycle tire for 139 rear/ 100 front in December.

For general sport riding, good all weather grip, not the longest lasting though.

Sportec M1's
Diablos
HPX's
BT010

(In that order or preference, IMHO)

I have the bt020's, I dont like them. Not to comfortable with them. The stockers were better... My Avon 45/46's should be in tomorrow...

Thanks for all the replies

I went today to the dealer to get a new tire put on. I actually almost got another 208 cuz they had it in stock, but then they sold the last one while I was standing there

so I ordered a new set of Metzlers. From all I have heard plus what you all have said they should be great. My dealer's cost really worked out to be $20 more than ordering from the discount motorycycle tire place before shipping charges, so I went ahead and ordered from them. They didnt have any 190's except the new BT140

. They do stock most tires normally but I guess with bike week(s) coming up they are just out.

Turns out the tire wasn't a "blow out" really, but a really big ass piece of glass (beer bottle) poked right through the center of the tire
