Hayabusa mileage or how high is high?

Hi folks,

I have an opportunity to buy a 2nd hand, 50.000 km (about 32.000 miles, mostly on the highway), year 2000 busa. I would be the second owner, the bike is well maintained and in top shape. It has an Akrapovic 4-2-1 complete exhaust, Power Commander II and an alarm system. The deal would be at around 9.000 USD all taxes included. A brand new one, with all taxes included is about 19.500.

The only problem is I do not know how high is 32.000 miles in the life of a busa. Does it worth it? Or is it already past half it's life and I should consider a new one?

Your help would be greatly appreciated in this matter.

Thanx,
Cotoi

PS Thanx in advance to those of you who'll say that I should move to US and get a brand new one with an extra 1000 tops my 9000 :-)

I have heard of people putting 50,000 to 75,000 miles on the busa with no problems but I would not even think of paying that much for a used one with that many miles. I have a 2004 with 8500 miles on it and I could not get that. I guess if you are limited what to choose from it's your call. Good luck on your decision.

Run it until you are tired of it and then start thinking about a new bike...

Enjoy it or get rid of it and get something you can enjoy riding.

Heck its barely broke in!

Seriously Cotoi 32,000 is nothing....it prolly doesn't even need the valves adjusted yet. If thats a good price for it in your country don't worry...just buy it. But check that it had the cam chain tensioner replaced under the recall. The 2000's had a cam chain prob that Suzuki fixed for free. And they replaced the rear aluminum subframe (seat support) with a steel one too....the aluminum ones cracked on some Busa's. Besides that the 2000 is the same haul-ass bike as the 2005's

so buy and enjoy. I just hope you have room on your roads for 190+ mph....or 320+ kilometers....lol

Cotoi,

Man I have a 1987 Honda VFR 700 Interceptor with 53K and I'm the original owner. Been to New York from D.C. a bunch of times and can't break the thing. The Busa is my first Suzuki, but I don't think the miles is the thing to think about. I do think you need to check some threads on the STARTER problem that plaqued older model Busas and see if that year falls in that range. If it does, check the guys receipts to see if he got it replaced at the dealer. Should be no charge item.

The other thing is that 9K is a whole lot for a bike that is 5 yrs old. (The 05's are out now) I paid in 9.5K for my 04' and I bought it in November of 2003. There are deals to be had out there and you can put the shid you want to on later.

Just my $0.02.

I had a interceptor with 62000on it and my last busa ( before I got rearended ) had 29000 on it and it ran great . I wouldn't think you'd have any problems if its been taken care of .

Miles mean nothing if you do complete overhauls, Rings shift forks etc. etc.

You can get an easy 50M out of a motor if it is maintained and do major afte that and start over again afte rings and such...

Maintenance is the key.
My 2000 has 45.5k miles, would've been well over 55k but never had much riding time this yr '04..
got about 1500 out of this yr.

Miles are not a good judge.
I would not want to buy something I put 5K on because I ride the piss out of my bikes....always in the gas and hard on the breaks as with many others.

But there are people that dont ride (and should not) the busa that hard. And a busa with 50K would be a fine bike.

So miles can be deceptive.

I think that as long as it is running that a good overhaul if things get tired would not be a big deal for someone that has some time in a busa motor and would give a good opp to maybe put in a new cam or turbo if you had a few extra bones to lay down.

But that is too much to pay.
I paid 8K for mine with the full Akrapovic, Brembo breaks and PC. and only had 2K miles.
I would shop around some more.

I have 70,000 km s in my bike and still runs like new, never any engine work done. I live ibn Canada so maybe weather is almost the same

The miles aren't that high, but please check a couple of things. It's pretty normal for the clutch to need replacement about 25,000 miles & chain and sprockets tend to last about 15,000 harder miles. Better to be safe than sorry.
