Hayabusa vs. CBR 1000rr

I have been lurking for a couple months now considering a Busa. I currently have a 07' CBR 1000rr that I love, but Im 38 now and seeking a little more stable/comfortable ride. I will miss the light weight being able to rock it rail to rail on the corners, but I feel it may be time for a change.

I have my eye on the 2011 Busa black/red combo I see it's basically unchanged from the 08' version. I was looking for some feedback since it's just starting to get cold here in Charleston,SC I was going to wait six months or so until both the weather starts to change and maybe save a couple grand on the 2011 model. Do you guys favor a trade in at the dealership or picking one up off Craigslist?

Anyone move up from a liter to the Busa feedback appreciated?

Thanks!

I curently have a gsxr 1000 and a Busa. The busa is so much comfortable and smoother that I dont even use the 1000 anymore. The busa is heavier, but you can still rail on the corners, you just have to get use to it. You are about to do a great choice.

That black 2011 with red graphics is awesome looking but will cost you at least a couple thousand more than a leftover as others said .
Also I have a friend who has a Cbr1000 and from a dead stop or a rolling go he may get a bike length on me but in very short order I catch him and roll on past .

Thanks for the warm reception and feedback guys. I'm going down this morning to see what the Suzuki dealer has on the floor what are the 09' going for I read on a different thread $9,999.00 from a dealer that is what Suzuki is allowing is that still accurate?

I do love the black and red 2011 so we will see. I will post what I find later this evening. By the way do you think the dealer would be the way to go to trade in my CBR or sell it first and deal with strictly cash? I have always sold my bikes, but I might want to keep riding until I find the "one" thus the trade in option.

Thanks!

Always remember that a dealership is a business, and they will try to take you to the cleaners on the trade in for your bike. The CBR1000RR is an amazing motorcycle, and you should have no problem selling it on your own for a fair price.

The new black and red color combo on the 2011 is very nice, but does not warrant the several thousand dollar upcharge.

I will also recommend going for a leftover '09, there you should be some great deals on one. I got mine for 12.7k OTD, there have been other members who have got it for 10.5k OTD.

Good luck hunting, welcome, and please post pictures once you get it!

Looking to go from CBR 600RR to a Hayabusa. Really excited. Wife will thank you me too. lol... but looking towards the drags and actually being able to launch it. Stock wheelbase on the CBR. lol... always lifting it up high.

Yep! Prior to my 09 Busa I had an 04 CBR1000RR and loved that bike a lot. If it weren't for my back hurting after 45 minutes of riding, I would still have it or have a BMW S1000RR right now instead of the Busa. But let me tell you, the Busa will not disappoint you. IMO, it is the best balance of sport, comfort and power. Don't let the size of it fool you either. For a big bike it handles really well and very comfy to ride. I love it.

Summed it all up correctly. Liter bike ideal for track, Busa ideal for street

Ok just got back from the local dealer. Basically I asked what the incentives were on the 09' Busa they had in stock (they had 3 left) he pretty much said none 13.5k period. So I sat down and checked out the layout and although I love the look of the bike sans the butt ugly stock exhaust pipes it definitely is a big boy. I didn’t like the excessive use of cheap plastic fairing on either side of the dash I must say. Seems like they could have knocked much of that off or did something more useful with that space.

So what I’m planning to do is take a test ride once one comes up for sale here locally than I will know for sure whether the big Busa is for me. I must say I had a blast blowing down the highway on my CBR though going up there  Still love the bike, but not from that dealership!

JJ I am curious what did you think of the fairing on the Busa once you stepped up from your CBR?

OP, if you don't like the Busa, but want something comfortable to ride, I strongly recommend you check out the 2010 Kawasaki Z1000 and the 2010 Honda CB1000R.
An added bonus with either of those two is that they haven't traditionally been big sellers in the USA (Europe is plagued with them!), so you'll have a bike that is different to what everyone else is riding, but can keep up with damn near anything on the road. (The Z1000 is a really good bike.)

I like the full fairings actually just cuz everything is covered up for the most part. I will say though that it is much more difficult to take on/off. You have to be careful and patient doing so. If you are referring to the black plastic panels on the sides and the dash, they don't bother me at all. Although I see your point. It would have been much better if Suzuki would have made those black plastic side panels as fairings as on the CBR's.

Get a much better deal by looking for used '08s (only colors changed for 2009-2011) which are now in the $7500-$8500 range. FWIW, I found mine on the local CL/Cycletrader. Best of luck with your hunt.

P.S. WARNING: if/when you take a Busa on a test ride someday, you will be HOOKED!

Yes, the black panels on the sides/dash are what I was referring to. The full fairing I do like as you mentioned on the Busa it just seems the black side panels take up way to much space. When I went up there and got off my CBR and jumped on the Busa it was like going from a street fighter to the mother ship. I'm looking forward to test riding once I do that I will post back up.

Krom: I got my CBR off Craigslist it was like finding my pot of gold when I did. It paid almost full retail, but it was exactly the bike I wanted and even drove two hours to pick it up. When I test drive the Busa that's most likely where I will look again to purchase!

By the way guys the dealer told me that the 2011 on the floors by December is wishful thinking he was talking the very earliest January just a heads up. That’s what the Suzuki rep told him several days ago.

 , I felt the the same way but you'll get used to it.

The 'Busa will shrink the minute you set out on it. I was intimidated by the width of the bike at first too coming from an RF600R but that passed quickly. You want wide fairings? Jump on a ZX-14! I straddled one early this spring and I felt like I'd just mounted the hood of a pick-up truck! The 'Busa is a tiny little thing compared to the Kawi!

One point for the test ride: respect the throttle. You might think you know what power is coming from a CBR1000 but you don't. The Hayabusa is making your Honda's peak torque below 5000rpm, and she only goes up from there.

Have fun, we know you'll make the right choice.
