Hayabusa vs R1?

Hey, don't get me wrong, I love my bus and when I take interstate trips etc.. I take it and it is much more fun above 130 or so. All I am saying is if you haven't had an r1 stay beside you or maybe even a bit ahead of you to 130 you haven't found someone who can ride one. The r1 is without exaggerating at least 10 times harder to launch and so forth. Even the shift to second is wheelie pron. My bus is all throttle. It takes one bad *** rider, but if you eventually find one, it will suprise you. There is one guy here in town with a stock r1 and when I first got my bus, I smoked him. There is also another gut here in town who has an identicle r1 (same dealer, same year, same shipment, etc) and he takes me and my other friends on buses in shear quickness and quarter mile times. The r1 is probably more q. mile capable in stock form, but not likely you'll find someone who can ride it like that!!!

This is just my experience but there is no way a stock R1 is going to hang with a stock Hayabusa in a straight. I don't care if it's second gear roll on or off the line. The Bus is way faster stock! My buddy has a R1 with just a slip-on and my Bus is stock. We have been riding together all season and switch bikes all the time. I can let him nail it first and come from behind and pass him like his motor stalled. My bus is faster everywhere and by a lot!! You guys mush have got R1s that were built on a Wednesday.

The R1 has much better on/off throttle transition, is much lighter and inspires
more confidence in the corners than the Bus
but that's it. In all the other areas, the Bus is better!

I owned an R1 & the Bike is fast & Watch out for the front end.....corners? Well would rather have a R6 or ZX6 -- the Busa & R1 side by Side, well hmmmmm.....I would not go back to the R1. I would like to own both as you do, but the R1 has less all around value for me......

My Opinion.

My regular riding buddy was ready to give me his R1 about half way back from Tahoe. I wanted to go ride that night. Have you seen the Mach 2 video comparison of the R1 and the Bus?

I,ve seen the Mach II Video and didn't they say at one point the R1 had a better roll-on than the Hayabusa because of its weight? I think it was said almost off handed. It was hard to hear.

BRM, don't remember hearing the part about the R1 being faster in the roll-on against the Busa. I'll have to watch the video again to hear it. The dialogue is a bit cheesy on the video and sometimes it's hard to hear. However, I would find it hard to believe the R1 would do the Busa better in a top gear roll on.

Hey Rogue, the first paragraph of your post tells me all I need to know about your riding ability.
I'm installing dymags on mine now taking the weightloss to around 50lbs total. Jeff W has exceeded that I believe. This bike in that form will corner with anything in the world.

Omega, I live for the twisties! I'm lucky enough to live very near a nice piece of twisty road. Plus, I know where those guys in Motorcyclist & Sport Rider test their bikes! Finally, I used to have a ZX11. I could ride the ZX11 fairly quickly but I'll tell you, the quickest I could ride the ZX11 in the twisties ON A GOOD DAY is SLOWER than I can ride my Busa on a BAD DAY. I'm a believer! The Busa can keep up with an R1 even in the turns. Also, I know a co-worker who just came back from a stint with FAST-TRACK at Willow Springs. Not the Streets of Willow but the big, fast track. He told me a guy in a Hayabusa was just spanking everybody including R1's, R6's & 966/748's. Not spanking them bad but staying in front of them anyway. He said NOTHING could touch the Busa in the straights. Yet, it was staying with the top runners in the corners as well. These bikes are stock BTW.

I know R1 riders can be real arrogant because their bikes are suppose to be THE BEST track bike, etc., etc., plus its pretty fast in the straights too. They don't want to think about or hear about a big bike like a Busa being able to kick their a s s e s in the only area they hold an advantage: the twisties. But I'll tell you, I've whipped a few R1's in the twisties on my ZX11(mainly rider ability I'm sure), I can't wait to find one while riding my Busa. Then we'll see! :-)

Rogue, Omega, you guys are gonna corrupt me if you keep going on like that.

I've been getting pretty convinced that I would ride faster and more confident on a liter bike. Faster for me anyways.

Yeah, I can see sinking 3 grand into the Busa will make a big difference. But what about sinking 3 grand into a liter bike. The argument cuts both ways.

Dymags on an R1 or 9r, with the rest of the money going into the motor.

My mechanic has an R1 with around 150rwhp. That's a pretty amazing power to weight ratio. Yeah, it won't have the Busa top end. But I don't know too many guys who can maintain Busa top speeds on racer road. And with 150rwhp an R1 shouldn't be very far behind in the corner to corner acceleration contest, with it making up the difference (and then some) in the corners.

Guys, if you haven't pushed the Busa in the twisty stuff, you're missing out on HALF the fun. The Busa can corner very, very well. It can lean as far as you dare. It's steering is very precise. The front end feedback is excellent. The whole bike is very stable even at insane speeds. Trust me, the R1 may be quicker in the transitions & carry a slightly higher speed on entry, but on corner exits & on straights, the Busa will eat it. Out on the streets with equal riders, the Busa won't be left behind. If I were an R1 rider, I'd be pretty worried about being embarassed by a Busa(or a 12R) that's for sure.

Kirk, I've seen the Mach2 video. Man! THat's a kick *** video of the Busa, XX, & R1 don't you think? You see how the Busa is able to take those slow corners really fast while the XX just chokes in its wake? Awesome. And on the top speed run in the French Peage, the R1 is left behind even by the ZX11(ZZR1100 in that video). The Busa passes both the R1, ZX11, & XX like they were standing still! I can't wait for the ZX12R vs Busa video.

Talk about a moot point, for my type of riding (drags and hi-speed freeway) the Boosa is great,a red/white R1 flew by me on the freeway,I made mincemeat out of him,it was no competition, and if I wanted to corner I would wait for the GSXR 1000,its gonna bury the R1.

As a previous owner of a 99 r1 I can tell you it is no contest in the streights. I still had my R1 when one of my riding buddies bought the first (I think) busa in Georgia. He bragged and bragged about he was going to wax all of us. 99ZX-9,98 ZX11, me, and a modifided Gs11oo. First saturday he procedded to do exactally what he said he was going to do----he waxed all of us---we could not belive that bike could be so much faster than "The cream of the crop"

I was recently promoted by my peers from a beginner to whatever someone is after they are a beginner. I recently lost the last of my "wimp strips" on the edges of my tires and recently started grinding my riding boots down (I removed my peg feelers). I can ride with better riders just about anywhere, because there are no roads that are nothing but linked 5mph corners. I can bank the bike in the corners enough to hang with them more or less, and as soon as there is a straight, I just dial them back in with my right wrist. I wish I had a nickel for every time I am asked "How fast were you going when you passed me?". They don't like being passed on shorter (100mph) straights when I'm on one wheel or going sideways trailing a fog bank, and I start getting flipped off if I pass anyone when they are going over about 150mph, especially if I go by doing 20mph or more faster. Yes, a skilled rider on an EX-500 would wax me, and an R6 is a faster way around the road course, but with fairly evenly matched riders on public twisties, the Bus will do the job.

The dunlop is awesome in the 200 size, grip is tremendous. You'll love it so much you'll never go back to the 190.
Thursday night we had a pack of bikes doing some corner hunting down here made up of some highly regarded machines like the tl and 2000 gixxer 750 and R6 etc.
Guess what, the busas were in front the whole time.

...Kudos on you self improvment, Kirk!

The Busa sure can corner, with the right rider...it is a very overlooked demension of the Busa's performace envelope by some...set up properly, it is among the most capable, dispite it's mass and wheelbase...it is just a little more work to push it around...the payback is the unflappable nature of the bike at speed...nothing against the wonderful R1, but on a wide, long, bumpy public road, they just don't seem to hang...with light wheels and brake rotors, you can eliminate the tendency the Busa has to stand up on the brakes when leaned over...I had thought it was a function of wheel base/steering geometry, but after fitment of Dymag wheels and Superlight brake rotors, this annoying tendency was gone...

Did you try the Pilot Sports yet? I was much happier with the 190 than the stock 198 size, but have not tried the 200 Pilot yet...I don't think I will like it as well as the 190, but plan to try one, just to "see"...I believe the 190 will work better on a stock sized rim...other Busas with differnt, wider, tires dod not "point" as well as my(old)bike, but there were many other variables...

Thanks. I still have my BT-56J front tire, and it still looks really good, in spite of the fact that I am really aggressive with the front brake when shedding speed prior to flopping into a corner. I will try a 207ZR in front also, I suppose.

I'm going to try a 200mm 207ZR first (if it ever arrives). I can't afford the pilot right now, and I may not like the 200. I'd rather not like a $120 tire than not like a $210 tire.
