Head Porting--Worth it??

I am gearing up to make some mods in the next few weeks, and i have read a good bit about the value or not of porting the head. Many of the article I have read state that the head will support somewhere in the 235HP range as casted from the factory. Some have stated that porting there's killed the mid range torque. Thoughts? Ideas? Viewpoints?

Mods on the way:
1397 13/1 Kit
378/330 cams

You'll want to choose the head porter and camshafts as a package. They can compliment each other or work against each other.
Peak horsepower is not always the right answer. I'd gladly give up 2-4 hp at 10,000 rpm to gain 7-10 hp from 6500-9500!

Head work is best left to the pros unless you have a flow bench and much experience. I used to do my own headwork on my car engines and was very careful around the intake and exhaust ports. It took several weeks to get them the way I wanted them.

Here is a quote from another board from Bryan Snyder. Bryan worked for Brock before opening his own shop

Yes we have used Spaz's head. They work well. I feel it is my job to constantly try new things to improve perfromance. The peak hp numbers are all about the same. I am trying to find more average power across a broader band. The cylinder heads I am using now are slightly more expensive. However, in some spots offer 10 more horsepower. The decision is left up to the customer.[/quote]

It is not all about the peak numbers and it is worth doing your homework before spending your $$. Not knocking spaz heads at all. I have heard good things about some of his stuff. But it is the overall combination to make it work.

Here is another good read from another board.

I run a bigger engine combo and my heads aren't hogged out. Just some smothing was all that was needed to really see some gains across the board.
