Thanks to everyone who wrote previously on headlight bulb replacement. I searched the forum and even found pictures to help make the job easier. Overall it took about an hour, but I was in no hurry. I removed the windshield and top panels, moved the instrument cluster aside (left it plugged in), and had easy access to the bulb. That retention spring was a challenge, but it moved away easily without me having to use needlenose pliers.
I installed a new OEM bulb--but don't throw stones at me! The OEM is "Xenon Premium Blue Long Life" by Candlepower, Inc. Since the old one lasted 4 years and 26K miles, I felt this would be an acceptable deal for me once again. After all, I primarily need the headlight for limping home at night after long hours at the office, not for "piercing the darkness" on a high-speed, late-night highway run.
