Headlight on/off switch - something new

Not really sure if this is something that folks would want, my stock gen 1 busa pulls about 4 amps for the lowbeam headlight. Save some work on the charging system by shutting it off when not needed.

I like it, but for me (and others) the risk of forgetting to turn the lights back on would be a problem, and I don't want to give the cops any reason to pull me over.
In NZ it's the law to have headlights running 24/7.
I have an aftermarket LED head lamp bulb and a LED tail lamp to reduce the demand on the battery/charging system, it's just another option.
I like the tip over switch eliminator that is offered by the same company, they got some cool products!

Thanks :) That company is me, BoostBySmith

Yep totally agree, would see this more of an off road for track or other purposes where key needs to be on for longer than comfortable times. Guessing this won't be a big seller, but have seen people ask about the european hand controls that offered the same thing.

Be handy in situations where you wanted to run the 4 ways but not the engine on the side of the road or something like that. Would save a little battery power.

Hi. I bought a 3 way head light switch [ off low beam high beam ] from Parts Unlimited. I did this because I could run the bike with the lights off as my tail lights are under the paint and the new switch is lighter than a stock switch.

I have mine wired so I can shut off the headlight. I do that when flashing as mentioned. It's a track bike so it isn't a big deal if I forget. When it gets dark I remember to turn it on. I don't suppose the police would mess with me much if I were riding on the street with it off, but it wouldn't be a good practice.

hi bird :)

smithy´s switch is nice
and if you want that too,
switch a 5 watt red led too by an relay that closes when voltage is off (smithy´s switch in use).
then you get the red light hitting your eyes, if you forgot to switch light on.

costs? low i guess ~10 bucks plus a bit time (1.5h) and a bit basic knowledge about electrics.

hi @smithabusa

and hi @ all

a minute ago i checked the wiring diagrams of the ´99, ´00 , ´01 (´02 = ´01) for the RH handle bar switch in the english manual, as rubb offers here at this post @ #10 already lots of times,
and i recognized that there those 3(4) types have no light switch (like all the later ones)
but
following this diagrams for E 03, 024, 028, 033
they should have the harness connector to replace the switch-less piece by a (european) switch with the low beam switch included.

i have no clue if you (all) could order the european RH-switch at your local dealer
but here in advance its art.-no. 37200-12F10-000

but before you point a blind order have a look at the connector if it is a 9-point-conn and have 4 not used / bridged / short circuited wires with the following colors (coming from main harness) :
O/G - orange/green, Gr - grey, O-orange, Y/W-yellow/white

good luck :)

I have an aftermarket LED head lamp bulb(...)
wich one exactly?

for ur info : at the moment i have an illegal xenon light as low beam
and its light output seems to me to be very good - the street is well lit, even in moon less dark night.

but i´m already asked several times what led-bulb one could use but i have zero exp. with that
and only for testing i don´t like to spend more than 10-30 € - yes, I'm a bit stingy, sometimes

and the german osram-factury brought a new product to the market - H7 LED with and without canbus-"interpreter"
but only for some cars - 12 (at the moment) to be precise - and for a prize of 130 € per set (2 bulbs)

technically their (osram) h7-bulb should fit 100% to really ALL H7 lamps / reflectors because into currently available ALL H7 headlights def. ALL available H7 bulbs will fit in any circumstances.

but
the german law requires that every new light source (here the led) together with the lamp / headlight and its reflector must be checked individually and that this combination must then be approved by the federal motor vehicle office before it becomes legal. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

what a bureaucratic effort - the sheer nonsense - but unfortunately not to be avoided.
and I am not ready to spend € 130 just for testing (here you see my avarice), and according to our laws I would still be illegally on the public road.

why i´m writing so much ist the fact,
that these brand new osram-led-bulbs are as easy to put into the lamp as the the standard H7 bulbs and that would be a very big advantage / benefit.
never more the big xenon-device and its huge wiring.
plug and play? - hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

@Kiwi Rider

thx for the link

but the stuff from china (aliexpress) won´t be a choice for me
if i can get an approved german h7-led like the one from "osram" at a nearly same price per piece.

at youtube i saw the led-how-to - video - scroll to minute 7:00-14:00 - sorry it´s in german but i guess the pics speek for themselves.

in january ´21 i´ll try to get contact to osram technicians to get more / sufficient informations
and eventually to get one single bulb for tests with the busa low-beam.

we´ll see ;)

That really wouldn't be for me. There are too many people that can't remember to turn the light on when driving a car. Those light need to stay on all of the time.

If you have ever flashed ecu. This is a must. When I was tuning my bike I pulled the fuse for the headlight. Wish I knew this existed before.
