Hey guys...As soon as my 2008 gets back fromt he custom painters in Dallas here in tx..ill be riding a lot..

My girlfriend lives in Houston, and I in austin..its a 2.5 hour ride...love makin the trip every weekend...

I HAVE NEVER ever considered using a helmet headset that bluetooths to my phone so i have very little knowledge of any products...money not an option...

I have heard of Chatterbox, and thats it..

I am looking to get a Garmin Zumo 550 for navigation...what can i use to talk to my girlfriend as im riding??

I dont think you are going to get much reply on this thread , i asked the same question in another thread and nobody answered. I have been researching this all day and the best i found was nullJ&M Bluetooth They are dual speaker , noise canceling , wireless with rechargeable lithium batteries. I think im gonna try a set of these ... they also look comfortable.Nolan using this kit in there facory bluetooth helmet.

I just use a set of BodyGlove earphones wit the 2.5 mm jack ($20.00 at Radio Shack) with the microphone built in for cell phones. They are small earbuds and have a pretty good sound range for music. I just plug the head phones into the phone and tuck the mic under the wind buffer under the chin of the helmet. I'm able to argue with the wife at 80-90 with no problem.

Hey Donnie, I am looking to get the Scala Q2 http://www.cardowireless.com/products?page=1
I like the size but you do a search and find alot of good info.

I've got the Scala, nice operation but the volume leaves a little to be desired. It's sometimes a little hard to tell if your phone is ringing. Once connected, it's pretty darn good. It's rare that an important call is expected while you're riding, but sometimes life presents such.

Riding's one of the few times I get to be out of contact with anyone and I can't think of a single time I've received or made a call that couldn't have waited an hour or two, but hey...I'm old!

I use my Zumo and a chatterbox for the phone. I won't answer it while I ride, but I can see who is calling on the Zumo. I will stop and talk if it is important and I don't need to remove my helmet.

I use autocom.  I checked the JM's but the way they sell those things, you basically need and electrical engineering degree to figure out what parts you need.  Autocom was 500 plus but is straight forward, and had all the bells: Intercom, noise cancelling, auto volume adjust, vox activated, expandable aux with power outlet.  I really wanted the chatterbox bluetoothe, but the forums I have read stated "below average" for the the speakers and the wires "felt" frail.  I wear plugs with the autocom and still have to turn the thing down.

Let me know if anyone has any input on the quality of the chatterbox bluetoothes.  But so far I am happy with the autocom

I use the Scala Rider Q2 and love it.

Crystal clear at 75mph...the FM radio sucks.

My buddy says I sound better on the Q2 than I do talking on the phone and he cannot hear any wind/road noise whatsoever.

I cannot comment on the GPS as I am waiting for my Zumo 550 to be delivered.

The only negative thing I have heard about the Q2 is the poor FM radio that is built in.

My 2 cents worth

I spent a helluva lot of time and money researching this and finally decided upon the Baehr Ultima XL system. Installation to the busa was fairly simple since the tank so easily lifts up. The Baehr system works well with many components and has all the features you should expect from this type of system. Some of its features are

1. Rider to Pillion - this is seemless. My daughter and I ride together and the moment she speaks the system drops down all other coms activities (mp3) and allows us to chat. The clarity is amazing and it is no different than having a conversation with someone in a quiet room at almost any speed.
2. Mp3 - I currently use an Ipod as my mp3 player which works very well as the system places music on the lowest priority and lowers the volume for other activites like voice or phone calls.
3. GPS Zumo 550 - The Baehr system has a bluetooth module that integrates perfectly with bluetooth devices such as your phone and the Zumo. Phone calls come in and the Zumo shows who is ringing and lets me answer or decline by touching the Zumo screen. Also the sound quality and microphone system also means that people who ring me on the bike don't ever know I'm on the bike speaking to them as it is so quiet.
4. Radar - The radar detector I have stealthed on the bike also feeds directly into the Baehr unit. The whole priority system on the unit allows me to set the radar as the highest priority therefore any radar hit comes through and mutes all other audio inputs.
5. GPS Zumo 550 - Another nice feature is that down here In New Zealand some clever bloke went and programmed all of the fixed speed cameras throughout the country and when you approach these cameras the Zumo starts to monitor your speed and screams in your ear to slow down until you pass by the speed camera.
6. Baehr unit comes with two stereo headphones built into your helmet. Fairly easy to install and customize in just about any helmet. Only thing that is annoying is the spiral cord that you need to attach to the bike from your helmet.
7. Push to Talk - I have hooked up a UHF radio (walkie talkie style) to the Baehr unit and using a button on my handlebars I can press a button and chat to my buddies on their bikes (we all have this setup) and chat to them. Pillions can hear the entire conversation but don't have their own PTT button.

All in all its a A1 system with heaps of features and toys. The only stumbling block is price in my opinion. The price I paid is in New Zealand $ so will have no bearing on what you will pay in your country but trust me if you want the best then this is the best bet. And it works a treat on a Hayabusa.

Gee that probably wasn't 2 cents.... seems more like a quarter

damn sounds pretty sick

After the Texas M&G this weekend, having a bluetooth helmet system is a fabulous idea.

Many thanks for saving me God knows how much time and energy doing the homework myself as I was looking for just this!

Question;

When the iPod is connected to the bike is it/can it be configured to charge via the bikes power source or do you have to charge it every time you want to head out?

I'm considering the Nolan Flip Up Face helmet. I saw the N102 at a shop and it seems to be practical. It got blue tooth for your phone, you can hook your mp3, and also hooks to passenger for communicating. I never tried working it but it seems to be pretty handy and affordable. nice designs, offers safety helmet rating and got Communication built in, for an affordable price... http://ncom.nolan.it/Index_ENG.aspx
