I've been wearing a cheapo HJC helmet which really tends to lift at high speeds, do any of the more expensive brand helmets prevent this?
I would like to think the more expensive the helmet, the better it will protect you in a spill. I was wearing my inexpensive HGC CL-15 when I went down. I wore this helmet as an everyday helmet, and kept my expensive Shoei for rides like the bash at the Gap. Out of the five helmets I have, the HGC has less wind noise, and is more comfortable than any of the others that cost 6 times as much $$$. The CL-15 performed great in the crash! I took on a 4"X4" metal sign post with my head and shoulder, and without the helmet, I don't think I would be alive today. I agree 100% that fit is very important, but I do not agree that a more expensive helmet will protect you better in all cases. I think the CL-15 is one of the best helmets on the market for the $$$, and I'm going to replace it with a new one even though I have four more helmets to wear.Even a very pricey helmet will 'lift' if it doesn't fit properly.
Your helmet should be very snug to prevent this.
I'd gladly recommend the pricey helmets. They're worth it when you need it.
Conversely, the padding in a helmet will compress with time and any helmet will not fit as snugly as it did when new, so, my strongest recommendation is to buy a helmet which allows you to replace the padding.
Good luck!
