Help fitting Gen 1 Nose Fairing

Hi everyone! Some old lady that couldnt see out of the back of her Lexus 4x4 (with reverse sensors and camera!!!) knocked my gen 1 over about a month ago. I had it for 2 weeks, she is an 05 with only 1000km on it!

So insurance paid me out and I am changing the whole bike to Carbon Fibre. I got most of my parts so far, Bodywork from MDI Carbon Fibre and screen and mirrors from Magical Racing.

My problem is I first put on the nose and it fitted to the new fairings pretty well. there were some gaps where the inner fairings meet up but I didnt worry as it was coming off again for stickers and Grills in the air ducts.

So I took the side fairings off, put grills and stickers on, then took the nose off and did the same. Can i get it to fit back on? No way man! I have side gaps and a gap abover the clocks, and have to skew the main central fairing bolt on each side a tad to get the nose to side tabs on too.

Carbon is not flexible so options there are limited. But I have heard other people have issues getting the nose on, but can not find any details ona way to do it. Or maybe my fairing grilles are in the way of the rams or something? If the Rams fit into the ducts tube in tube thats understandable, but I dount it and I cant see it when it is on hey.

Any tips please I'm at a loss, I am even thinking about filling the gaps with foam or rubber but what a mess I will make of it!

Heres some photos of how it is so far, but I am a perfectionist and am stressing that it is going to look horrible!

p.s. I have the Matt Plain Weave Carbon inner fairing set to replace too. Just waiting for it to arrive then I will need a permanenet solution as I'm done with the front end then.

Yeh, I am in Australia though so might take a while to get an answer. they are normally pretty fast at emails, but this is the first time I've contacted them with a problem lol

Im going to reseat the side fairings without the nose and take the dash out and try and fit the nose again. Maybe I will have some visibility then if anything is getting in the way.

I sooooo hope it all suddenly fits together snug, that would make me very very happy!

Is your cowling brace bent/knocked out of whack?

That was my thought too. If the fairing stay, the bracket that holds your gauges and the mirrors bolt to, is bent the slightest bit, your inners, nose and fairings will fit like your picture.

Are the plastic pins from the nose in the rubber snubber / o rings of the frame? If you take out the rubber o rings on the frame and try to fit it again and it fits you might be able to narrow down where it is tweaked.

Wow perfect thanks. I will check that today and try seeing how it fits together without it. I'll place it there to see the comparison. That should tell me a story.

From looking at your pictures it appears that the bike fell on the right side since everything is pushed to the left. If the cowling stay is bent, the best thing to do is purchase a new one (or one that you know is not bent). They are not very easy to get back square.

Thanks man. I'm sure it's the nose as the side fairings go on straight on their own. I have to offset them to get the 6 nose bolts on. Of course that makes the inners not sit in their pegs correctly too. I will put them on right today and hopefully have another pair of hands to help maneuver the nose etc today. IIt'sa killer not having a garage and the sun Iis crazy here til the house creates shade at about 3pm.Plus to take a break I have to bring in all my parts and tools

It did fall on the right. But nothing moved out of place, so the original fairings were still seated. Perhaps I'll see if the original nose still fits to differentiate

The original fairings may not have "appeared" to have moved, but they will give/flex (especially when it is warm out). So when they are bolted and hooked/seated together they will move as one and would probably not pop apart. I would take the nose off and then take measurements from something that is stationary such as the frame.

Just know that the fairing stay bends very easily. It doesn't take but the slightest tweet of it to make the fairings not fit right. Also if you decide to get a new one for the love of God get a factory one. They cost more but the aftermarket one almost never fit right.
