Ok here goes....I have to honestly say that im not the most experienced rider...i do alright im safe and dont speed...much....due to a DUI from the past im very reluctant to speed. I love my Busa alot and i love to go fast however ive never owned a bike worth racing IE on the street...how do you guys find the proper places to race....I also dont want to embarass myself, the bike and most of all you guys, youd eat me for lunch if i lost..ha ha. So ive shyed away from races. Is there any tips or info i can get to better myself? Im gonna attend a school soon, time and money permitting. I ride everyday and try to launch every light permitting to get better at that. time is the ultimate teacher but i could always use tips....one last thing...how in the hell do u ride a weelie on this thing...i know it sounds funny that i cant and i feel like a squid but i just dont seem to get it...thanks for your help again guys.......James

Howzit goin', James? Here in So. Cal we have quite a few Busa owners who have gotten to know each other. I'm putting myself on a gradual speed program, first going to the drag strip (Carlsbad Raceway) on my old GS1100E. Then I will take the Busa when I am confident I have got some experience on the older bike.

I ran 12.26 at 111.4 yesterday, and have made a total of 14 passes in three days so far on the old bike. I expect to run tens immediately on the Busa, and hope to turn a high nine...that's the goal.

The next step for me is to do a track day at Willow Springs Raceway. The next one is May 29. To run your bike at a road racing track means digging into your pocket. Once again, the old bike will go first. I need a set of full leathers, and the bike needs tires, front brake lines and pads for the track. Fees here are around $20 for a day at the drag strip, or around $180-$200 for a track day at places like Willow or Laguna.

But I think that's the cheap way to go. If you get busted for doing 170 on your bike on the road, you go to jail for a felony and your bike is gone. And even that would be cheap compared to having some lady pull out in front of you in her SUV when you are breaking the sound barrier. Save it for the track, that's my advice. That's what I'm doing.

Also, I'm no wheelie pro. I bring it to about 4 grand in first on freeway onramps and gas it. You get a real nice power wheelie out of it, and you can just kick it to second, let the front wheel drop and be on your way. You get smooth after doing it a few times. GoBig is our wheelie pro over at www.LABusas.org. Come by and visit!!

Ride safe.

Damn good advice Mr Bear...its tough to turn down an A@# hole on a CBR POS though ya know...i actually had a KIA with the tires stickin out the side and a doughnut tire on the front wanna race....i laughed and let him go by....DP school in Buttonwillow is where id like to go someday soon...like i said time and money...oh yeah im in Tucson here

There are a few guys with Busas from AZ who post here and at LABusas. GoBig and Ducmanic do track days at Willow.

there are some good tracks is AZ go to one and do some prying.I would go to both schools ,drag and roadrace don't go to a street race untill you KNOW your bike.
