Here's what's wrong with the INTERNET Part I

One big, basic problem with the entire existance of the internet is the ability for people of all AGES to attempt to converse as if they are equals. Specifically, lets say a movie message board where wise 57 year olds can comment on a movie right along side immature 9 year olds, both negating the others existance altogether.

There is not another natural community for these diverse communications to exist. Except maybe Grandpa to Grandchild where the adult steps it down to child level talking about grades and fun and candy.

But the net allows, or even ENCOURAGES such pointless diatribes.

Think about it. When you get together with your friends, you are with a select group of people, interested in the same things [why they are your friends] talking about common likes, dislikes or current events. you do NOT get together with just everybody on teh planet randomly and talk about topics that offend most in present company. The net does that almost non stop.

Old guy,"I find this movie entertaining and heartfelt."

Kid, "only cuz u r old and a poop head!!! :p~~~~ You suxor as does your opinion!!!!"

Think about that! That would never happen in real life. The net is not helping world wide communications as much as it is hurting it. Tough pill to swallow but it is true.

The reason THIS place works so well is it is NARROWLY FOCUSED to a tiny, specific, interested group. A group that does NOT draw a large, random clientel, but certain age and mantality. If the whole net were narrowly focused, it would be a much healthier place.

...and Al Gore is old and a poop head!!!

You are right. That is why the youth of today are such morons. I have noticed, even at the age of 22, how disrespectful teens and children are.

I -KNEW- that was coming. :D
But ya see what I mean? Guys used to get together in cigar rooms and talk about stuff, but they didn't bring their kids ? ! ? ! ? ! ? Women gather and make scrapbooks, and AFAIK the kids dont go to those either

What is 57 Y/o doing in kids chat rooms? something wrong with this picture.....

I see quiet opposite.. All age groups communicate at the same level, I see it as good thing.

i know at my house when adults are doing adult things with other adults the kids are all off playing because they are not allowed to join in the adults activities. Does this make me a poop head ? :poke: :poke: :poke: :poke: :poke:

As narrow focussed as this site is, as a new member i see quite the diversity of opinions regarding how, when and where the Hayabusa should be rode. Not to mention all the different opinions on MODS and gear! I believe those lines are drawn, for the most part by age. The Generation Gap no matter what era it is will always rear its ugly head, Internet or not.

That's just it: All age groups can NOT communicate at the same level. It is mentally impossible for a 12 yer old to communicate like a 40 year old. Nor should they. The net is good at giving false positive spins to something - like this style of communication. The net allows many things to exists that simply shouldn't. A 40 year old COULD talk like and too a 12 year old, if he dumbed it down, but a 12 year old CAN NOT talk like a 40 year old lacking the experience.

It's not right, and I am stepping up to call it out. Not talking about chat rooms... that's a WHOLE other problem with the net. :)

I'm 43 and I've nothing against any age group, but logistics say a 12 year lacks the wisdom to converse with older crowds.... and this is too easily done online. Thus the problem... AND half the problem of kids getting a way with it. No retribution or responsibility. If a kid mouthed off to a grown up in person [well they probably wouldn't due to the mere SIZE of adults compared to kids] the kid would face some sort of "Correction" say either getting punched in the face, slapped, STERNLY talked to or even grouding by parents. HERE online.. they get nothing but the development of bad habits and improper social graces for REAL LIFE.

So, I'm calling it out... I'm saying it IS bad that kids so freely converse with adults -- THAT doesn't happen the same way in real life. And there is no benefit and much harm to letting somone ELSE raise your kid online by defining what he does or does not get in trouble for.

This site is narrowly focused. We are not likely to get high numbers of kids here talking about BASEBALL only, or women discussing needlepoint.... it's a Busa board, well managed and moderated. If you are here long enough, you notice the non fitting rif-raff drifts through and leaves quickly due to it's strong standards. Unlike many other boards I frequent where the fighting/bickering is pointless and unproductive
