Kurtis Meyers set his house on fire in Mohawk, got in his car drove around the block to a barber shop walked in with a shotgun and opened fire, killing two people and wounding two more. He walked out of the barber shop got back in his car and drove a mile away to the village of herkimer where he walked into gaffeys jiffy lube car wash and oil change and opened fire again, killing two more people. He got back in his car drove up the road ditched his car and sought refuge in an abandoned building where police and swat pinned him down and still have him pinned down as we speak. He set fire to his house at 9:30 this morning, was never seen by any officers, he opened fire on officers passing by the building he is in. This all took place 15 minutes from my hometown, I grew up here I had close friends that lived and still live there. One of the men killed was a 20 year nys dept of corrections officer that worked with my father for the last 10 years or so. It's sickening knowing their are people out there like this and it's scary knowing it can happen in a place like this, herkimer and Mohawk are the types of villages where people say " it could never happen here" . I have friends working next door to gaffeys who were working when shots rang out I have cousins that go to high school and college there, I have a close friend who is law enforcement in that very village. I weep for the victims and their families and I pray for officers, firefighters, and paramedics/EMTs who are there as we speak. So I guess my point in this rant is if you think it couldn't happen to you or it will never happen here, think again.

He was a normal guy like your next door neighbor. The difference between sane and crazy is as little as a 30 second conversation. He no different than you or me, he just not having a good day..

and as sad as this entire situation is, I promise you the news media and the NY politicians, led by govt numb nutz will turn this into a anti-gun issue. In the state with some of the strictest gun laws in the land, so much so technically the cops can't even have hi capacity mags

How can we legislate crazy? And now with Cali's latest gun grab, why would anyone voluntarily go get their head shrunk if they feel they need it.

Sorry just hate that this will turn into a gun control debate instantly instead of the loss of life in the media :banghead::banghead:

I can't even stand the sight of our "beloved" governor here in New York :banghead: let alone watch him stand up in front of the media today and give his blah blah blah I'm saddened for everyone but Gun Laws Gun Laws Gun Laws, almost like he's happy it happened to "prove his point" :moon:

and, nobody could defend themselves or save innocent lives as he progressed through each shooting.

conspiracy folks would tell you post trauma events have had DHS agents playing victims for the media....

I'm soooo ready to move the hell back south, the moron running this state is certainly on the list of reasons....though the list is long/varied :banghead:

I was so tempted to toss a movie reference in for that last line but

I don't know about you, but I have never had a day so bad I would consider going about aimlessly killing people. On my list of things I don't even want to understand, this is up there. I don't believe this is in everyone of us just waiting for us to have a "bad day". In situations like this I have to ask the question, What is breading this kind of behavior in people. Personnaly I believe it is a societal problem. I don't believe people give enough weight to external environmental conditions that influence and shape a person.

This is sad. This week, some people found 2 pipe bombs (so far) here in Clovis, NM. This world is pretty much doomed

That was the exact point I was going to make. Because of NY regulations they were defenseless law abiding people. If there was anyone there with a CCP it could have been different. It was a shot gun, Joe Bidens favorite weapon. Very sad that you People in NY that obey the law are fish in a barrel. Vote with your feet.

A couple of grenades into the basement could have saved everyone but the perp.

I couldn't agree more...however,
That would be cruel and unusual punishment, as the poor "suspect" was never given a chance to surrender and go to trial.

God forgive me, but they should've set the house on fire and shot him if he came out.

A simple "clear your weapon and throw it in clear sight or we will use deadly force" would have sufficed.

New Yorks gun law is a mess... I was a police officer for 28 years, SWAT for 13 years, firearms instructor, and department armorer for 20 years. I for 13 years could carry MP5 or UMP40 submachine gun. Now Im retired and I can have only 7 rounds in a 10 round magazine of my guns. In a short time any magazine that can hold over 10 rounds will be illegal unless it's modified so it will never again hold more than 10 rounds, but you can only have 7 rounds in it. All my magazines hold over 10 rounds, good luck finding 10 round mags before April 15th when no mag over 10 rounds can be sold. No new guns sold in NY can have a magazine that will hold over 7 rounds (works to in effect ban most semi auto hand guns). Also there is the so called assault weapon ban and registration, registration will have to be done every 5 years of your guns will be taken.
This new law is an anti gun law that will not stop shootings, it is a tool to grab the guns of honest people. A law that will make honest people criminals, it just goes on and on here in NY. Watch out for what they are doing in your state, you could be next..
