ummm.... so here's the story....

I'm getting on the bypass to the interstate, when a Colorado cuts across a lane of traffic then cuts in front of me (one fluid, dangerous movement). This kinda pissed me off, as he almost hit me on my bike. Now, as we merge onto the bypass, I go to pass the traffic, so as not to get stuck inbetween cars and give me more space... Somewhere along the way, I passed a county LEO doing 70 in a 55. I didn't see him, as I don't pay attention to WHAT cars are around me, just that there IS a car near me (the truck cut me off, thats why I paid attention to what it was). Anyway, he came after me, but I didn't notice him as he was appareantly a few cars back, and I didn't see flashing lights. I got on the interstate, and he got pushed FURTHER back due to traffic (again, I was just keeping up with traffic as it was too thick to get ahead). I still didn't see him. I get off on my exit 1-2 miles down the road, and I look in my mirror and see him getting on the exit ramp (about 1/4 mile back) I figured he was after me then, and when he got to me, I pulled to the side of the road, cut off the bike, took the keys out, and took off my gloves and helmet. He got out of the car, told me twice to turn off the bike, and I informed him it was off. This is basicly the conversation that took place....
He asked why I ran.
I said "I didn't know you were behind me till just now."
He said "Bullshid, You looked back at me twice and continued!"
"I was shoulder checking... I looked back just long enough to make sure I wasn't going to hit a car when I changed lanes. I didn't pay attention to what or who was behind me."
"Yeah right! Don't lie to me, I'll take you to jail! Why did you run?!"
"I didn't run. If I was going to run, I wouldn't have waited for you here at the stopsign, I would've been gone. Shoot, if I was running, I would've split traffic on the interstate and tried to lose you. I don't run, I live across the street from 2 state troopers... I'd get caught."
"Alright... Wheres your liscense and registration? Where's your county sticker?"
"I haven't gotten my county sticker yet, and my license is in my wallet, my registration is under my back seat."
I hand them to him, and he tells me to wait...

To make a story that could been a LOT longer short... I got 14 over instead of 15 over, and I need to mail in a copy of the reciept for my sticker in to get that waived. I know I got off easy from his point of view, but with this ticket (6 points as I understand) I'll probably lose my job, which means I'll probably lose my bike, and my means of happiness as a result. Anyway, do you think there is a way I can get him to reduce the points further seeing as my job depends on it? I was polite when I talked to him, and he knew who I was (He called me a while ago when a yellow bike ran from the cops... they thought it might be me until he realized how big I was, I didn't fit the description)... Any thoughts short of getting a lawyer?

The LONG and SHORT of it is to GET A LAWYER ! You'll probably get the whole ticket droped

My lawyer gives repeat offender discount. Sorry

You can purchase prepaid legal service. I have trucker friends with it. One use to pay $11 a month for it. They beat almost anything. Been thinking of getting it myself, just in-case.
Not sure if they handle tix's before signin on.

Without a doubt, hire yourself an attorney. Not just any attorney, get one that does only traffic with a good record of winning. Any ole general practitioner will take your case and your money and probably loose. If you get an attorney that traffic is their specialty, you'll most likely get the whold case dismissed?

If you don't know who to get, just get the phone book and start through the yellow pages "Attorney's" ask them all who they would recommend who specializes in traffic. All the attorney's in your area know each other and soon you will be able to decide just who to contact about your case. I'd guess a good attorney will cost some place between $300-$500? Just a guess.

I've been in this situation a number of times and I can tell you, all attorney's are not the same.

Get the very best traffic attorney money can buy,it'll be over in about a month and you wont even have to appear.:;):

If you have to borrow the money for the attorney or charge up a credit card, do it - the insurance savings alone for the three years it's on your record will pay for it not to even mention losing the job...

I just went to trial last week for a 73 in a 55 in my truck. PLead not guilty, took it trial and the Trooper didn't show. The Prosecutor tried to make it sound like he was gonna cut me a break and drop it to 63 in a 55 to avoid the points. I immediately asked him "the trooper isn't here is he, shouldn't this be dropped all together?" Prosecutor replied "he can be here at 2:00 pm if needed". My summons ststes that he and I both were to appear at 9:00 am., the court is 2 hrs from my home and I have taken off work 2 times for this crap on a ticket I should have never received. Long story short, in the hall I agreed to accept it, when in front of the judge I refused the offer on the fact that I had some questions for the issuing officer and he was not available. DISMISSED!

Good luck with the lawyer. Ask around, maybe some of your buddies needed legal help with traffic violations. Get the scoop on a good attorney from them if possible.

It is worth the money considering the alternative.

Throwing some good karma your way...

Most attorneys do not actually beat the ticket. the judge looks at your previous driving record, and decides if you deserve to have the points withheld. The judge that i see all the time decides like this. If you have not had more than 3 tickets in the past 5 years, then she withhold the points; if you have had more, she will sometimes do it, depending on how many tickets, but she will require either a 4 or 8 hour driving class. Depending on her decision, you will pay the ticket, the subpoena fee, and the fee for the class. If you have a real bad record, she will sometimes add to the fine.
