HHR Anyone?

Does anyone here have a Chevrolet HHR? If so, what do you think about it? Likes, dislikes, etc.

MY wife is thinking about getting one in Jan or Feb and would like some input from actual owners if possible.

I don't have one a friend of mine does had to repaint the f&r bumpers a few times due to the paint chiping off from others hitting the bumpers while parking, I like old type of metal bumpers. Other then that no problems.

we've sold several so far... no problems.. and really shouldn't be anything major.

the standard motor is the same 2.2l ecotec they had already been using in the cavalier for several years.. 140hp.. 34 mpg and up on a trip.

the optional motor is a 2.4l ecotec.. same deal basically 172hp 31mpg+

proven auto transmission, and if you go with the 5 speed you'll be really happy with it.. getrag makes those trans, and they've been around for a few years now in the chevies with no major probs.

The dealership I work at has a black LT2 pkg. right now. polished chrome wheels, the 172 motor, auto, leather, sunroof, ABS, side curtain air bags.. blah blah blah.. loaded up.. $22,250 and you can get them down in the 16-17k range if you go with a more basic one.

THey are built from the cobalt platform which is doing wonderful, and getting very good reviews.

also.. just in case anybody is looking for one.. we have a couple of the Supercharged SS cobalts in stock with 5 speeds. 205 hp.. and a light weight car.. thing is quicker than a greased missle.

anyway... in short.. I wouldn't hesitate to buy the HHR.. especially if your comparing it to any of it's competitors... just a better made vehicle, and it's obvious when you start looking at them side by side...

it makes the PTcruiser look like a total POS in comparison.

the element is a friggn box.. with a rubber floor even on the highest dollar one.. and it costs more than the HHR to begin with..

and you can compare it to the scion junk... but one look at those things up close and if your not scared to death you could die in a parking lot fender bender after looking at em your crazy. It's like the frame is a plastic straw and the body work is tin foil... I don't think they even considered occupant safety with those things.. just make em' cheap ya know.

haha.. I can go into details about whatever your curious about if needed.

My wife said those are cute, referring to the PT Cruiser.

I said "There is NO WAY I will let you buy a rebodied Neon, so forget it."

I am planning to drive the HHR on Wednesday.

a guy at work got one, the silver one. He is kinda big.
we told him that HHR stood for Homos Hot Rod

HHR ugly like shid.
haters.. haha

I like em'.   I agree though.. I'd love to see something like that with the interior of a tahoe..

my wife wants a HHR also..  I drove one we had at work a little..  I liked it...  but it's no tahoe ya know.
I don`t hate it.... It`s just looks like shid....
Scion looks like joke.... even worse.

Maybe practical ..... but.....
I`m not practical person, that`s it...

rented an HHR from Budget for about a month...wish I could have that time back!

Big'ol POS.
window controls are just like the PT-Poser ....low on the center console...but in the HHR they are even harder to get to ...especially if the car is in park.
mad.gif

there is ZERO width to the cabin...my buddy and I could barely sit in the front seats together ....constantly rubbing elbows...definitely NOT for the homophobic
mad.gif

chevy cheezed out on the plastics and cheap foam seats....ride for more than an hour and it feels like boat cushions.
mad.gif

also chevy decided rather than put lights behind a few of the controls...that shining a piss-poor LED on them front side wass the answer...NOT
mad.gif

there is (at least not in the one I got) no dome light....so the rear people are in the dark...the only lights are in the mirror.
mad.gif

The "chopped roof" look doesn't come from a lowered top....but instead they raised the height of the door panels....it makes for raising your arm to get it up to the ledge.
mad.gif

it does handle like a go-cart....an asthematic one at that...so if 20K is just burning a hole in your pocket...just go buy a pile of rocks...you'll have a better time.

What he said....
One more thing... This car will depreciate 50% in first month.
Never buy new car if rental companies using the same model...

Sorry ego, but I'm not a fan of the HHR either...all Chevy's as a matter of fact...

Honestly, the PT Cruiser was cool for a while, but it's shape looks very outdated to me already...the HHR is like the PT on steroids...I think it'll lose it's luster fairly quickly...time will tell...just my opinion...

BUT, I do think this may be my next vehicle...

Oh yeah!!!

I'm fairly sure the rental you drove would have been a fleet special.. since all rental vehicles are normally fleet option...

probably more like the $15,000 version.... with the little 4 cy.

I do agree with the power window buttons though... thats annoying.

just out of curosity.. whats the difference in chevies plastic... compared to ford's, dodge's, honda's, toyota's, mercedes, cadillac, range rover, ... basically any car company you can think of?

the seats are designed to be firm because it's supposed to be more comfortable on long trips.

bleh.. whatever.. he asked.. I told.

The difference in typical low-end plastics and the higher-end ones is the finish. Low budget manufacturers invariably find a way to make the car "Feel" cheap, where in more luxurious brands, although the plastic may be the same chemical content, it has a better tactile feel. Fit and finish also has a lot to do with it also, when there are big gaps and warped lines in between interior panels, it just looks sh!tty.

I think the HHr and Element, Scion and PT all look stupid, kinda like a guy driving a VW Cabriolet, but if that's your thing, go for it.

I think they made it looks cheap on purpose.
VW is cheap... Plastics looks/feel/finish 10 time better then any domestic car/track....

If it was me and I need $20K car what it would be......
2 years old BMW 325 I or XI.
3-4 years old mercedes E or C class.
Brand new VW Jetta or bug if I need funny looking car.

again, that what I would buy..... only my opinion....

Hey the PT Cuiser is pretty cool and my wife has one. I think she would sell it if anyone is interested. We have pictures of course. Maybe $16000 2004 base model with a moon roof and some lights under the seats, and stickers on the windows. FM modulated installed and antenna ready for XM. It is in the background of this awesome bike LOL. We have more pictures if interested. Have a great Thanksgiving all

investigation is needed..

just as a precaution.. i'm calling BS now though.

I'm off to find these huge gaps, flimsy plastic, and overall crappy workmanship.
