HID HEADLIGHT

I just bought the 6000k McCulloch HID Low Beam Kit from Xenonking and had a few questions about installing it. I have tried to read up as much as I can on the forums and know there are a few different ways to do it. In your opinion which is the best way to install this kit? Do you think that it is best to take the nose of or to just take out the gauge cluster? Also, how many of you have had a problem the light flickering during start up or is this something that happens to random people? Is there any fabrication need for the bulb to stay in place in the housing?

When I called Xenonking I asked them these questions and they stated that there was no fabrication needed and that they haven't heard of people having problems with the flickering during startup or heard of people putting time delays on to solve that problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am going to install them as soon as I get them in. Thanks.

Well, I took the front nose off to install mine. I wasn't in a hurry and it gave me plenty of room to work, especially since this was my first installation. Maybe if you have done a few of them you could easily do it by removing the guages. Anyway, I installed the McColloch for the high and low. I didn't have to do any type of modification, it was basically plug and play. I probably have about 5k miles with them without any problems. I did install a time delay at the time of installation, but to ensure that I was not going to have a problem with it flickering, if it were to happen.

It's pretty easy... just jump in and go for it.

yeah,i removed the nose also, you can get it off and back on in 15min,its not a big deal to take the nose off.plug and play.I have the same setup you just bought,i didnt install the highbeam just the low beam,it is more then enough, i didnt install a resistor or switch or anything, the flickering hasnt done anything negative to it,it works fine

Hey Busagalaxy, two things, first, go to an auto parts store with ONE of the little plastic clip screws and buy some extras because they get brittle as they age (don't we all) and I broke two when removing them (the ones around the black plastic panel under the nose). Also, I bought a good toggle switch and inturupted one of the lines into the low beam...and installed it in the black panel just in front of the left handlebar (plenty of room). I'm so glad I did...just like old school bikes, I have an on-off headlight switch, I flip it on when I roll away in first then flip it off when I shut down. It is an easy and awesome way to not tax the Xenon bulb and the high beam only comes on with the high beam switch anyway. My added benefit is I don't have to disconnect lights, or tape them for track days! Hope that helps. Doyle

Look at the little shiny spot just under the rear view mirror...that's the toggle.

As for whether or not you need the relay, it depends on the year model. 05-up and no, you don't need it. Pre-05 you do. I have an 06 and went ahead and installed a time delay on it for the heck of it. I also did remove the nose. You don't have to, but I already had it off from a crash, so I did it that way. As for needing to fabricate something for the bulb - that depends on if you get everything you're supposed to. Some people have gotten a little foam piece with their McCulloch kit. I, however, did not. If you want a full step by step, just check out this post. HID Install. Just please do me a huge favor and realize that it doesn't HAVE to be as complicated as I made it. I did it that way cause I wanted to. A bunch of people posted replies saying things like "man, I'm glad I didn't get that kit. Mine was plug and play." The McCulloch kit IS P&P. I made it not P&P.

i installed my kit a few days ago. i have an 07 so i took the plug and play route. no switches or delays. took no time at all. i just removed my upper inners by the dash, my windscreen, and gauge cluster. i felt like it was more than enough room to work. as far as the foam piece, i didnt get one. but there was a rubber piece (boot like thing) where the wires come through from the actual bulb. i slid that all the way up against the bulb, and the retention spring held it firmly in place. i was happy the install was so simple. get it done, and post some pics.

I received my HID kit in today and this is what came in the box. I hope to install it soon and take some pics to put on here afterwards. Thanks to everyone that responded to the post, you all have been very helpful.

+1 on the way raydog did his installation...

I did my HI/LOW 6000k the same way...took the nose off to be sure to have plenty of room

and +1 on installing a on/off toggle switch on the hot wire of the low beam=== this will allow you to cut it "off" for when you crank the bike up- then you just flip the switch and cut the light on--- then after you kill the bike, just remember to cut the toggle off....

This will save your ignitor from having to power "on" twice during when you cut the key on and when you push the starter button... Makes the ignitor last longer..

And just be sure to have the "high" beam switch set to "low" beam and your high beam won't cut on unless you need it...I very seldom use mine now though...
