HID High and Low beams

I need to put HID high and low beams on my 08. Where to buy, and how hard of an install is this gonna be? I know someone here has done it (Warchild? write up?) but any advice is much appreciated.

+1 on just the low. But it's only money.

You pay for what you get......

XenonKing will be around for the long haul! In the unlikely event something goes wrong they will be there to get it right!

+1 on the Low beam only install.

Unfortunately, the ignitors have been known to misfire when cycled on and off, causing the lamps not to come on.

For this reason, I have stuck to the low beam unit.

I'm using the DDM kit I got last Summer.

The install was easy really.
I took off the whole nose assy.
(I've done it a few times now, so I've got that down.)

The H7 lamp needs to be trimed a bit to fit nicely in the holder.

I used the 3M double sided tape to secure the baalst to the top of the headlamp housing.
Because I didn't want to cut of the female plug off of the bikes wiring harness, I simply plugged the positive spade to the side off the plug, and like wise the negative side sealing it all with weather strip adhesive putty.
It all tucks neatly behind the rubber headlight grommet and Voila!
HID

The whole thing from start to finish took about an hour and a half.

I can't even see my high beam with the HID low beam. Best $$$ I spent on my busa was HID!

I have been so busy programming the website for the big Galfer Group Buy, I haven't been able to write up a bunch of articles I've been wanting to, the HID Install being one of them.

Shame, as I took almost two dozen super close-up, hi-res photos when I installed both the High and Low-Beam HID kits last month!

The install is straight-forward enough.... the only thing I would comment on until I can get to the write-up is the following:

Like most bikes, the Busa lights up its low-beam headlight when you turn the ignition on, extinguishes then when the starter is engaged, then powers back up after the bike is started. But this now means the HID bulb would ignite when the ignition is switched on, extinguish when the starter button is engaged, and then have to re-ignite a second time after the motor fires. It would be preferred if we could avoid this second ignition sequence, because it it's not doing your ignitor any favors over the long haul.

So... a separate switch that provides 12v power to your HID ballasts solves all problems. I highly, highly recommend installing one. I placed mine in the upper left dash piece:

Instead, I installed a delay timer. See electrical section for more details.

I used a switch, and a relay. Also, installed my switch in the right side handle, in front of the mode selector.

What color temps are you guys using for the bulbs? I'm considering 6000k for low beam (H7) and 4300K for hi beam (H9). or should I go 8000k (lo) and 6000k (hi)?

I've got a 6K in the low beam. It's got a slight blue tint, much like a BMW. I'd to with the 6k or the 4.3k for the low beam. You could go with a higher K for the hi beam since it won't get used that much...it'll add some color then.

Use 4300K for both if you are interested in placing max usable lumens on the roadway. This color temperature is fairly close to natural sunlight.

5000K is also fairly acceptable.

At 6000K, you're starting to get some noticeable blue hues.

At 8000K and above, you are just into the bling territory, and in some regions, you can easily become a cop magnet.

is hid´s illegal in US?

Not any more than speeding, or 105dB race pipes on the street, etc.

Key to using HID kits on bikes is to have a well focused, properly aimed HID conversion kit. When done right (ie. aimed no higher than the top of a typical car engine hood, well below the on-coming drivers line-of-sight), it is rarely an issue.

It's the bull$hit Pacific Rim kits that is all out of focus, give off light scatter everywhere, aimed incorrectly, etc that give HID aftermarket kits the bad rap they deserve.
