I installed my HID low beam (6000K) setup last night and I noticed that when I first cut it on, it flashed really bright, then goes really dull, and slowly gets up to bright white light. Is this supposed to happen, or is something on the fritz?

there is a burn in process to follow when you first put them in.

...after that they still need to warm up to full level.

Normal "warm up" is around 25 - 35 seconds for a HID burner of that size (automotive/motorcycle use) to get get to full brightness.

I can understand the warming up process, but am still not sure about the bright flash then warming up, does this happen to anybody else?

OK, thanks all for the info. I feel much better now that I know it's not going to catch fire when I go to sleep
