Honda 929

Well I sat on the Honda 929 today. More comfortable than the r-1. The most interesting thing about the bike is the exhaust. Between the the header pipe, which is titanium and rest of the pipe which is stainless, is some type of exhaust router and depending which rpm's your bike is at, depends on how the flow is affected. It looks really trick and they demonstrated how this worked with a pipe that was off the bike. The bike should weigh about 430 lbs wet. Pics and other info should be coming soon..........they had to get their presentation set up. They promised me a cd on the bike which tells all about it and some great pics with all the colors. It looked like a typicall 900 rr to me but I'm not really a 900rr fan so I need to have one side by side to tell the difference. After market pipe for this bike is only be slip on's because of the exhaust router. Unless someone can make more horsepower without it.........Honda has taken a new step forward...This also relates to the newly designed air box as well. But, as I find out more, I'll let everyone know. Track test with the magazine riders tomorrow. I'll try and get some feedback from them as well. Maybe Freddie Spencer will take a ride. They said the bike will have a broader power band because of this exhaust improvement...better than the R-1. They wouldnt tell me brake horse power but they stated at the crank it was 150 horses.

Oh, it came with Michelin Pilot sports. I didnt get the size, but I will............Michelin is with them at the track also.............

I think the slip on will be good for losing around 10lbs and adding a few horse. Also improving the sound which is needed. I really think I will have to purchase either this or the RC (if possible) in april or may when the insanity dies down. Lovem both.
The exhaust valve has been generally looked at as a mirror to the exup. I suspect that erion and muzzy and probably yosh will get more hp by eliminating it at a small expense of lowend. Like the R1, most owners will probably elect to have the full system. BTW, the header, valve, and collecter are all ti. They say the can is also but it will probably weigh 15lbs or so.
I cant wait to read the reviews, I believe its going to be a more refined, user friendly R1.

Vegas how about some insight on the RC51....

Please!

Michelin Pilot sports?

How are yours holding up to your high speed assaults on the desert highways?

omega the cannister has some titanium but thats it other than the header pipe. The Honda representative went through the entire exhaust with me step by step. He had one off of the bike..I got into the RC51 a little bit. They wouldnt talk too much except to say its going to be their new platform for their superbike............

VEGAS!
You can really help me out if can learn of how the rides went in Vegas. motorcycledaily.com said they will post this inforamtion, but Honda has imposed a US news embargo, supposedly, til Feb 1st.
I am getting down to the wire of where my money is going.
How was peg height compared to the Busa? And did you sit on the 2000 R1 for comparison? They lowered the pegs and raised the bar on the 2000. You are one of very few in the US to actually sit on one! They put em on a revolving platform at all the shows.
The 4-2-1 or 4-1 exhaust valve is the same idea as the R1's just as Omega said. Patent expired.
4-1's are better for high rpm power, drag racers usually use em. 4-2-1's are better down low. The valve opens from 4-2-1 to 4-1 at 7500 rpm and up.1/27-- It looks like Honda will move it three times. Low rpm, med, and high. So it is different than Yamaha. motorcycledailty.com 1/26
e-mail please with whatever you learn. Have you seen the Yellow/black in person?
Thanks--I forgot that you said the 929 was coming to your place of employment.

Hapo--you're right, but it has not been that easy for me, obviously.
Omega--the FI point is one of the big pluses on the 929 side as well as its handling.
But, never sat on it. Not that big of a deal unless your tall, like I am.

I sat on the 2000 R1, fits perfect. + for yamaha, looks are killer + again.
Latest review in Motorcyclist and my previous rides on a '98 R1 are also a +

This is a good decision problem though, agreed. I will stop posting on it until the decisions made.

Omega, I agree its more positive, but a couple little things still bug me. I will wait til Perf. Bikes comes out Feb 3. Anyone in the UK with a subscription or access to it quick?? Still would like some numbers to top off the opinions. You probably know by now I will never be satisfied.

1. Another 929 site's moderator e-mailed Erick, the editor who wrote the article and asked him about the 3000 rpm glitch. He said the handbuilt 929's were very smooth in throttle response. Great news. But, he went on to say that he did not spend much time there because of the venue..Las Vegas Track. I have the e-mail if your interested.

He also flat out refuse to compare it to the R1, even though he said he knew thats what everybody wanted?

But, you were right in that this write-up indicated the 929 would be easier for most people to ride hard. And, the handling sounded great. This is killing me, because the R1 reviews are coming in great also.

Still waiting

...Bob, why not just pick the one you like? What difference could it realy make?

Your choice is easy Bobby, the 929 is the next step up the evolutionary ladder. It epitomizes what technology was meant to do. It shares the same capabilities as the R1, only it makes it easier for the rider to exploit them. Besides, carburation is being very rapidly phased out. As you know the honda system is the most sophisticated of them all. I bet they add ram air next year.

OK, now I want to refer all of you over to motorcycle daily to read the indepth riding impressions of the 929. You have all read my prior posts on this bike. Remember when I said the ultimate accolade a sportbike could recieve was that it elevates the ability of the rider? Read the articles then come back to this thread and spew some more ZOOKPOOP. Big Red is not to be f ucked with, see why?
