Okay guys, I hooked up my Sportvue MC1 and tried to do the final cal on it tonight. I realy like it, but I did come to a small speedbump.
First, I had to cut the bracket for the mag pickup so that I could install it under the caliper bolt head even witht he RoadLoK installed. Next issue was that I used the included positap connector (these things are awesome btw!) into the green wire at the ECU for the tach reading.. but no tach signal... and because it can't read the tach, it can't learn the gear ratios, meaning - no gear indication...
I checked the wiring and all the connections were solid, so I performed the procedure for reseting the tach reading... problem is it reads max full on now.

I need to reset the unit somehow so that it reads correctly - but I have no idea how.. any ideas?

Reset RPM Bar Graph
On occasion it is possible that your bike may send an errant RPM “spike†to the MSU. If the RPM bar
graph only registers a few bars, yet the speed and gear are correct, use the following procedure to reset
the RPM learning mode:
a) Turn the HMD unit ON and place the helmet on your head.
b) Turn off the motorcycle ignition
19
c) While holding down the “B†button on the MSU, turn the motorcycle ignition on. The display will show
“SETUP.†Release the button, it will now show “GEAR.â€
d) Push the “A†button repeatedly, until you see “RSTRPM.â€
e) Push the “B†button once, firmly to reset the RPM.
The display will now show a higher RPM reading until it “learns†your bike’s RPM again. Each time you
rev the bike, the top of the bar graph will represent the highest RPM seen to date. Each time you rev the
bike higher, the bar graph will learn the higher limit and show that as the max RPM.

That is what I did, but the problem is that the RPM bar reads full - I don't know how to reset it back to new...

Same thing pusher posted, but it says something like you have to reset it again after it reads full. Last paragraph.

Why doesn't my RPM show up or only shows a few bars?

1) Check the RPM signal wire to make sure the PosiTap® connector is correctly installed. It should be connected to the proper wire from a cam or crank sensor as described in your motorcycle service manual or our website support page.

2) It is possible that your bike has sent an errant RPM “spike†to the MSU. This is rare, but if the RPM bar graph only registers a few bars, yet the speed and gear are correct, use the following procedure to reset the RPM learning mode:
a) Turn the HMD unit ON and place the helmet on your head.
b) Turn off the motorcycle ignition
c) While holding down the “B†button on the MSU, turn the motorcycle ignition ON, the display will show “SETUPâ€, release the button, it will now show “GEARâ€.
d) Push the “A†button repeatedly, until you see “RSTRPMâ€.
e) Push the “B†button once, firmly. You will see “DONE†to verify that the RPM has been reset.
f) Push the “A†button to go to “EXITâ€
g) Push the “B†once again to return to normal operation.
h) Turn the ignition off and then start the engine.
The display should now show a higher RPM reading until it “learns†your bikes RPM again. Each time you rev the bike, the top of the bar graph will represent the highest RPM seen to date. Each time you rev the bike higher, the bar graph will learn the higher limit and show that as the max RPM until you manually reset it, using the above procedure.

See, the problem is that I may have used the wrong wire (I don't think so) and the unit is not sensing the tach. So, It reads speed, because that comes direct fromt he mag pickup (works wonderfully) but the gear is a learned comparison between tach and speed to produce a gear following the learning function. Since it is reading full RPM all the time, that is how the unit learned, so it shows me in neutral...
So, I followed the reset procedure, but it didn't help... I will try again today...

Thanks guys, keep the ideas coming!

it is the green wire on the kickstand side of the ecm there are two green wires, one with a yellow stripe. one solid one, it took me a few trys to get the right one,
i think you are on the wrong wire also. just think shawn you failed a test, and now your gettin info from a guy that goes by the name the pusher......

(Pipefighter248 @ Jun. 30 2007,10:39) Look like wrong wire.
CLICK HERE for hayabusa wire color codes.
Yeah Nathan - it says white in the instructions with the unit as well, but in the schematics in the Busa manual (as well as several threads here it is the green one) though I am now wondering if I tapped the wrong green wire...

BTW - I am on my way to the post office to send you an envelope

thanks for your patience.

No problem on the patience part.
Hope you get it taken care of.

(thepushercg @ Jun. 30 2007,10:56) here you go
Same wire... need to go look again.... thing is, that is the only connection so it has to be there... I will pull the posi tap apart and see what is the deal...

Well I can not offer any advice but I am anxiously awaiting your report on that product as I am also looking at one. Good luck.

Shawn, how is your speed reading at slow speeds below 30MPH? is that erratic with gear # blinking like crazy?

I soldered mine RPM wire instead. positap is not really good for RPM signals.

Also call them or shoot an email.
