Hop Up Mod for 0 mph/kmph

Since the time my H knocked me over when the sidestand decided to retract on its own, I have been trying to come up with a way to make the sidestand less prone to self retraction. Today I tried something that seems to work.

I bolted a 1" by 2" by 1/4" piece of steel to the bottom of the sidestand pad (the part that comes in contact with the ground). The piece extends 1/2" forward of front of the pad.

The way the stock sidestand is designed it offers almost no resistance to retraction if there is any forward force applied to the bike, like when its facing down hill. The piece I bolted on resists retraction. It works best when the handlebars are turned full left.

Please don't flame me for starting a topic that has nothing to do with the ZX12- the bike or the person.

Mine was pushed of it's sidestand by a nice lady driver in an Espace. She didn't see it when reversing. I watched in horror as it happened...I was 20 metres away in a beergarden. I did point out the error of her ways to her. Estimated bill...3500 swiss francs (1200 ukp - 2000 usd).

Lyle, a Harley kickstand?

Wouldn't that be a little like making Carl Lewis wear Gomer Pyle's boots?

My Busa would rather lay flat on its side in the garage than be subjected to such humiliation.

The mod I did to my sidestand is quite adequate. It will hold the bike on modest downhills and it is very solid on level ground.

I like the Harley sidestand too, but it doesn't take much to improve the stock H sidestand. Plus it saves you the embarassment of going to the local Harley shop and asking if they make an adapter kit to fit a Harley stand to the Hayabusa.

Thats a great idea---I think that is the purpose of this forum. The only time mine came over was in the garage when the sidestand hit the edge of the rug it sits on and retracted a little bit. Thankfully it fell over on me, and I was able to right it before anything touched down. I have been trying to come up with a fix for this and I think this will do the trick. thanks again

Don't know why they didn't just do what my last bike had. It was a 1976 Harley FXWG (so no excuses for a modern bike not doing it).
When the stand is put down and the bike laid over on it it moves slightly out from it's normal position which moves it up against a small metal stop so you can't even drag the bike forward off the stand. When you out the bike upright the spring pulls it back to the normal position so you can retract the stand.
Simple but very effective. You can even park down a hill without worrying.

This may sound like blasphemy but I wonder if a Harley kickstand would fit on a Bus. Or better yet here's an opportunity for the aftermarket folks. A kickstand that won't drop on $5000 worth of fairing. ?Aftermarketers are you listening ?? Suzi how about you?

Lyle---You want to go into a Harley dealership and say "I'd like to see one of your kickstands to see if it would fit on my Hayabusa" Good luck, let me know how it turns out. Just be carefull---while youre in there don't buy a fake beard and turn into an sugar.
