How did this happen

Ok (photos to follow tonight) but I pulled my bike down for winter service and upgrades. The forks are off to Gixerhp for overhaul and I noticed that the front fender was worn away by the tire on the very back lip (nearest the radiator)

This is not a rub, this is a 1" section that was worn away by the tire and I do not have a clue how or when it happened.. nothing ever came loose or fell off the bike. It just appears to have been held against the tire and worn away..

Hi speed runs: A few 10 and 14 mile runs from Indiana to the Ohio border at the 170mph range (what ever this thing runs at WFO) We have a divided 4 lane that is pretty new, perfectly straight but for one small turn (well small at 60). Perhaps this rub was from that?

I will post images tonight but suffice to say it looks like you took a bite out of the back fender...

nothing ever fell off
Corsa 3 120/70/17 is the only other tire on the bike up to this point

Probably something thick somehow sticked on your tire and was forced to pass under the fender.ho knows what .....mud maybe..wood ..branch...human leg ..arm of your latest victim lol

Or maybe hard breaking with your big azz on top of the handlebars, screaming slow down Nelly.

JK[/quote] and I spit coffee on my keyboard again.........

it had to be either tire related.. (check your tire for any cuts) or loose fender bolts. The thing follows the conture of the tire so brak/accel doesn't effect it. I've ruined fneder in that area from lowering but that on the outside. No way to confuse that with rub wear...

Maybe you are missing the plastic washers that go on the fender? I have afew tire rub marks on the inside of mine...I guess from bottoming out. But not worn thru.

nope all the screws and the little black shoulder spacers were in place.. no abrasion marks around mounting holes that I remember (rubs)

I will get the photo here within the hour

you know what It could be... my strebel horn.. the 139db thing.... if under hard braking the thing is pushing the fender down... did not look for that mark.... but sure seems to be a good candidate for this problem...

I know I had trouble with my horn before. Even without lowering it might hit during very hard breaking. You should see some gauges in either the top of the fender (behind fork tubes) or your horn may be dented or the mounting bracket may be bent...
