download the manual, has very good step by step.. you will need to skip over parts of it as it also tears down the top end of the motor..
search "transmission gasket numbers" has photos and part number of gaskets needed as well as a tube of sealant..
The manual misses 2 small detents and springs.. They are in the end of the shift drum and can fall out.. (behind the gear position indicator)
On a difficulty scale of 1-10 (10 being most difficult) I would put this about a 6-7 for a guy with "good" mechanical ability and has taken apart relatively complex devices..
If the most you have done is spark plugs, probably a 8 or 9 and probably best left to a pro (just out of common sense and the frustration of learning something like this) Taking the engine in and out of the bike is still a DIY option and takes about an hour if you have the correct tools and a lift.. 2 hours to reinstall and get running (again if you are fairly mechanical) You do need 3 special sockets (about $80)
I do have a "used" transmission ($150 TYD) but it needs undercut just as yours probably does.. costs go from $105-500+ depending on what you do.. I spent $300 on mine and had all the "upshift" gears done..
PM GoldenChild Daniel can steer you in the right direction for parts and work.. (he did for me)
