How to clean new chain gunk off?

Either WD-40 or Kerosene soaked disposable shop towels or strong paper towels. I use both depending on what part(s) I'm cleaning.

+1

I'll usually grab the WD-40, but the K comes in handy, too.

There is a huge controversy over which works best, WD40 or Kerosene. Your owners manual says to use kerosene, not one of the chain manufacturers recommends WD40 as it drys out the O-rings. Check out these articles then make up your own mind.

Aslo this stuff called "citrus clean" its the best degreaser i have ever used.  it litterally blast off the gunk.

i swear by it.  If you try it you will agree.  its expensive but its concentrated and well worth it,  it works on everything,  if you have a stain or unwanted grease anywhere it will take it out...period.

...........Plexus.......it impregnates the chain lube and lifts it like magic.  It also leaves the wheels looking shiny-bright !!!!!

Plexus baby, plexus........

Just keep turning the towel as you go........

"TRUST ME (NO REALLY)".......I've got gloss black wheels........Plexus.

Best thing I've found is good, old, stinky diesel fuel. It really is the same as kerosene, but I get it free as my brother runs a big farm. Yep, that's me--CHEEPO!

(///M+Busa @ May 19 2007,20:43) Okay whats the best way to get this gunk off the frame and wheels that came off the new chain?

Motorex chain cleaner is the best stuff I have ever tried. I have access to kerosene and diesel fuel and this is better as it's not oily or smelly. A little bit on a clean rag will clean your wheel and swingarm like new. It evaporates leaving a clean dry chain that is ready to be lubed.

I use this stuff called Citrus Blaster, got it at home depot, or lowes. Spray it on, hose it off

WD-40, Chain Wax, not going to the garage to see what it is. Silver can. The gunk on the chain runs of the chain and 24 hours later I have a clean and well lubed chain, with little to no sling.

Alright dayum it, Chain Guard Crystral Clear
