How to do the 'etching' or 'writing' in mirrors

Have a small mod I want to do for my new car and was wondering if anyone has any experience or direction on this.

The side mirrors in cars where they say "objects in mirror are closer than they appear"

How could that be done on a replacement piece of glass but to say something else?

Sticker stencils and bead blast. For example: tape off mirror and words to be etched.....bead blast then remove tape!

What about doing it from behind the glass like the factory does it. It looks like it is etched into the backing and then painted black.

Being picky, arn't we?

I've had good luck using duct tape for a mask on the front, I think it would be next to impossible to put it on the back, unless you were equipped to put new backing on it, I guess a glaser would know better.
