How to get this out of my 2000 yr model busa fuel pump?

Finally decided to get into the fuel pump of my 2000 hayabusa to clean the screens and do the inline fuel filter mod. Well getting to it wasn;t hard, taking it apart has been hell. EVERYTHING seems cemented into place. The screws were pretty much rounding off and i had to use pliers, wd-40 and alot of anger to twist the damn things off. threads look fine and screws arent bad but will most likely replace them. That was just to get the damn thing apart in half. I still have the screws holding the fuel pressure regulator(?) what contains the smaller screen that gets clogged to somehow get off. However the fuel filter retainer plate i just plain cannot budge. It doesn't even look the same as the one shown in the service manual:

Pulling and yanking on this damn thing with pliers obviously seems like a no no. But how to get it out of there? Its stuck in there pretty good. The fuel screen thats part of the pump insulator that wraps around it was stuck in the casing when i pulled the pump out. Drowned it in wd-40 and was finally able to yank it out of there. You can see it in the background around the fuel pump. Screen was as dark brown as the rest of the thing is. Cleaned it with contact brake cleaner but i will probably just cut em altogether. Providing i don't ruin this damn thing and have to replace it outright :x

I feel 4 U! At least it'll feel good when it's reassembled (or replaced?) and you're back on the road. How many miles does your 2000 have on it?

had the exact prob with my 99 , i used a lot of wd & kept manipulating it till the wd got around the o ring , had to give it some grief but it came good in the end

Man I'm sooo glad I don't have an early first gen with that style fuel pump setup...I feel for you. Thats the main reason I'll never own a 99-02 busa...that and a few other things

That's funny, I'll never let my 2000 go, I worship every nut and bolt on it.

I used a small flat head screwdriver around the edges of that brownish yellow plastic piece shown there. Just be careful and slow, and work around the circle a bit at a time with the screwdriver and it'll eventually lift out.

You're gonna have to replace the O-Ring on it, it's stuck in there so tight because the O-Ring has swollen, and it just simply won't squish back into the groove after you get it out.

I took that plastic piece to the plumbing section of the hardware store and found a ring the correct size for like 2 bucks.

Take off the fuel pressure regulator, there's another screen back there. I used pliers very carefully to get the plastic piece off. Oh watch out when you replace those screws. I used steel ones from Ace and one of the screws stripped the aluminum on the fuel pump as I tightened it.
