not only is it a good safety measure. its a requirement at the track. its also a good theft deterrent cause you cant start the bike without the lanyard attached.
PIC 1
1) loosen the bolts(1) on your brake lever/res.
2) slide it all the way to the left.
3) while its loose push the lever down to give you access to the allen head bolts on the kill switch(2)
4) mount the switch where you would like it. tighten everthing back up

5) cut down the black harness wrap with a razor knife(1)
6) cut around black harness wrap to access the wires(2) and pull the remaining wrap back
7) i cut about 2 inches long(black arrows)

8) find the power wire going to the factory kill switch
(i have an 07 and my wire was orange w/ white stripe)
9) cut it in half at the mid-point & expose some wire for the new connection

10)run the new kill switch wires around the back the way you want them and cut them to length

11)solder or butt connect the new kill switch wires to the old ones(it doesnt matter which way you hook them)
12)test your new connections by cranking the bike and pulling the lanyard out
13)if everything is working as it should the bike will die. now wrap everything with electrical tape

14)i used wire loom to make it look a little better back there. (even if im the only one that can see it)
