how to launch the 08?

I'm 215 fully suited and going to be piloting a 08 with slip ons and a commander. Otherwise the bike is all stock and running a BT-016 on the rear. Will be running either Firebird raceway or speedworld in AZ, so track conditions should be top notch. Any advice is greatly appreciated

THanks

Assuming a completely stock configuration, the trick is to get the throttle pinned and the clutch out as quickly as possible and let the torque of the motor do its job to pull you out of the hole. You can try leaving at as low at 2500 RPM, and based on technique and conditions leave as high as 4k, but at higher RPMs it more difficult to get the clutch and gas pinned instantly without instant wheelies. Assuming you can get the bike pinned in the first 1.2 seconds, the bike will start to lift at the 60 ft cone anyway. Gently backing off just a bit at that point will allow you to float the bike till 11k shift point. BTW, shifting at 10 vs. shifting at 11 makes very little difference with a torque-motor, so don't get greedy and run it into the limiter. Once your into second you should be able to leave the throttle pinned (if you have stock gearing).

Quick comment on bike prep. Strapping and lowering the bike makes a huge difference, and will greatly improve your ability to keep the front end down. Also, Until you stretch the bike, don't bother with gearing. Stock works pretty good with only moderate wheelie problems. 20 PSI in back tire is a good starting point.

Do the clutch mod to eleminate the down shift slipping feature. This will allow better clutch controll as you will need it. Without the mod the clutch will be grabby.
You also waisted money on the power commander as the 08 is a closed loop system unless you want to change the timming.

I'm currently dragging A old KZ, strapped and slammed and stock wheelbase on a street tire, i run around 18 Psi in the tire and WOT at the green light and slip clutch to about the 60 mark. I realize i need to get the clutch out and get WOT as soon as possible. If it starts to come up big should i short shift to control it??

Occasional short shifting is a good way to recover from an otherwise aborted run, but not the best technique in long run. If it comes up occasionally while your getting the clutch out, then its technique or clutch condition; getting it out smoother or sooner is the trick. If it comes up after the clutch is out, and as the motor comes into its power band, then you need to do something with chassis; Move yourself forward, strap the front more, lengthen the bike a bit, or put some lead in your axle. Moving your ass 1/2 and inch forward, or putting 2.5 lbs of lead up front makes a huge difference.

i assume you mean based on his situation he should be leaving at 4k ?
I know several people, including myself that usually launch at around 8k..

Correct, With a stock setup, 2500 to no more than 4k is a good starting point. Anymore than that will take too long to get the clutch and throttle out.
I leave at 6500 and generally get a 1.45 short. Hoping to do some chassis mods this winter that will allow me to leave at 8k like you.

****, a 1.4 60 is still pretty damn good for a stock chassis and leaving at 6500. Not sure that theres TOO much room for improvement. Sounds like the form is down pat so maybe the chassis work will get you down to the 1.2 area!

I have a chromoly McIntosh arm and a drag shock in the mail somewere out there. Stock shock and arm are pretty limiting. I have a datalogger that monitors clutch position and throttle, and from experience, the best 60 ft times are when I can get the clutch and gas out in 1.0 to 1.1 seconds.

It is my bike that he will be riding when he comes down to visit me, I am not a drag racer myself, I am more into canyon carving. This is more of a let see what it will do for ****s and giggles :whistle:so unless I catch the drag racing bug the clutch mod etc... will not happen.

and I know the pc is useless with just the slip ons but i couldn't pass up the deal I got on it and have plans to get a full pipe (probably brocks) as soon as I can free up some cash.

and if I do end up catching the drag racing bug, brocks has a whole lot of parts that would be on my list of stuff to get.

anyway thanks for the pointers guys:thumbsup:
