Hydraulic Clutch

No, many Suzuki's do my Bandit had one. By the way has your hydraulic fluid turned brown yet? The temp in the system must be extreme on this bike.. Mine turned darker after only 1000 miles. Oh well, I will purge the fluid often.

Is it true that the 1300R is the 1st Suzuki with hydraulic clutch?

I was riding with some Gixxer750s yesterday and they mentioned that to me. Were those old 750s with cable clutches or did they just not know what they were talking about? They looked like midget Busas.

I do know there is a big difference compared to my '79 GS1000.

My 90 1100 has hydraulic also!

Anyway, you can now buy Dot 5 silicone brake fluid. Will not mix with Dot 3 or 4, but can with stand stupid amounts of heat! Also, Motul makes a Dot 5.1 fluid, not silicone, but also handles excellent racing temperatures. Maybe this will help.

For what it's worth, my clutch hydraulic fluid was brown from day one.

I mentioned it to the mechanic at the shop when I got my 600 hundred mile checkup, he shrugged so high he scratched his ears with his shoulders.

I would have been happier if he'd signed up to do a flush-and-replace, but he felt it was a non-issue.

Suzuki's RF900R all had hydraulic clutches.

Re: Reservoir fluid turning brown. I noticed when my bike was delivered the hydraulic was clear in the brakes reservoir, but already a light brown in clutch. Two weeks later at 727 miles the fluid was dark brown so I drained and replaced the fluid out of the reservoir only. Didn't last long. Two weeks later at 810 I repeated procedure. This time the fluid didn't darken until 1723 miles (6/15) (and it wasn't as dark as 810). Currently the bike has 2043 mile and the clutch looks like it might go a couple of months before it needs attention. The brake fluid looks like it will need attention in month or rwo. Conclusion: the Busa contaminates it fluids quicker than my previous experiences with hydraulics. My RF900R could go 6 months to year without attention.

That darking clutch fluid is curious. Mine was darker than the brake fluid, but not a lot. 300 miles later it is a good bit darker. I changed the fluid in the resivoir, but it got dark again quickly. It is not from misuse, as I ride very easily and have never slipped the clutch. Any ideas? Must be some contamination in the system.
