ok, I assume this is in the wrong section, but I'd really like to get a response.

As you know, I'm undertaking a project of massive proportions (at least to Busa Engine Noob like me) and I'm trying to find that post or thread about the self-made engine removal tool.

I think I remember reading somewhere that it was like a 30mil socket grinded down in several places. Anyone remember?

Gearheads and parts guys, your help would be most appreciated. I'm gonna take leave from work next week to at least move the engine from the current frame to the newer one. If there's enough mojo in the dojo, then I may be able to slip on the swingarm and the forks. The wheels will be put on when they hit this side of the ocean....just crossin me fingers.

So yeah....can anyone offer some tips and advice? Since the motor's gonna be out, I'm prolly gonna clean the TB's and check the injectors. That, and slapping on a set of the Plat.4 performance spark plugs....possibly upgrading to higher perf. plug wires.

Your insight and wisdom would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

Taking out the engine isn't too bad...

You are going to need the special engine removal socket which you can get from schnitzracing.com... Its a little expensive, but just spend the money or find someone that has one... You don't want to jack up your engine mounting bolts by trying to get her loose with odd tools...

The part is about $60 and is worth its weight in gold...

Took 3-4 guys to hold the engine and bring it out from underneath the bike while it was on the rear stand... We had the engine hoisted with a hydro jack from underneath the oil pan... We then loosened all the mounting bolts and gently lowered the jack... At this point we were able to slip it out the right side of the bike...

If you need any advice, let me know... If you have specific questions, ask away...

If you are going to have the engine out, you could polish the frame while you are at... If you ever inteneded to do it, now is the time...

Find a socket that fits *ON TOP* of the thrust bolt (or whatever the manual calls it). Make sure that it fits over (on top) the notches, not around.

Then, just use a dremel or angle grinder and grind down part of the socket, leaving the 'high spots'. Do some test-fits and keep grinding little-by-little until it fits.

Hope this helps, Pac!

thanks, dood...I'll def. take you up on that offer. I've never done this before, so I'm kinda excited, but also a lil scared.

I don't have any rear stands...so I'm gonna try and fashion a hoist for the bike. I'll crack all the bolts loose first, though...then I'll lift it just enough to get the hydro jack under it.

I hope I don't ass it up. I actually need to transplant my motor from the current frame to the newer one....the newer one is p-coated black.

yes, that was exactly what I was talking about! But.....

someone here did it on their own...I'm trying to recall if they used a 27 or 28mill socket...or it coulda been a 30. I dunno. I was hoping that they would chime in.

But yes...this helps. Tanks, mang!

ah dang...I forgot about that one! I'll see if I can do that tonight...

Remove filler plug and then squeeze clutch, right?

Pac -

Check this out:

Looks like 7/8" and 9/16" Also, look at the link on the bottom post...seems pricey, but may be worth it to save the hassle!

If you don't have a rear stand, you could always use the stands that come with the hydro jack to prop it up and it will be secure... You can use the swingarm to support it, just use rags to protect hte swingarm from the jack stands...

COOL! Now that I can do!

thanks, Dan...but a bit pricey for my tastes. Moreso when I think about how often I'm gonna use it...which is only like two-three times at most.
