I finally installed my 16/42 sprockets tonight

I've followed the various threads on this subject for several months now, and finally decided to drop a tooth on the front and add two on the rear.  I'm not a natural mechanic at all, so it took me three hours to figure everything out and get both sprockets changed out (kept the stock chain with 5500 miles on it).  While I had the side plastics off, I also installed my Speedo-Healer, and to top off a night of modding, I finally did the kick-stand mod.

I can't wait to ride now!  I took the bike for a short 30 minute ride after I was done, and was smiling and laughing the whole time.  I can't believe how a small sprocket change can have that much effect on the acceleration.  It's hard to describe the change, but basically it's this:  The Busa has always been fast, but now it's quick and fast.  The initial acceleration is much snappier now, and feels much more like a lighter liter-bike.  Of course the front wheel comes up much more readily now, but not unexpectedly or too quickly as I wrongly feared.  With the stock sprockets I would do usually take it up to 5 or 6k, let off the throttle, then snap it back open for a nice power wheelie through 1st gear.  Now, there is no need for that... Just twist and take-off.  For anyone considering this mod like I was, I've got three words:

Just Do It!!!

I'm falling in love all over again

16/42 is really fun, definately get an extra tire if anyone else is thinking about switching the sprockets....
My speedometer reads 60mph when I am supposely only going 50mph. That was based off riding side by side with a Ducati going 50mph. but shid his speedo was probably off too

I got the AFAM sprockets and Speedo-healer from www.calsportbike.com.

I think it puts my top speed to around 170 or so if I remember the numbers correctly.

How often was I really going 180 anyway? ? ?

170 MPH is more than enough for where I ride... not crossed 140MPH till now

I know what you mean now about a whole new attitude. I'm trying to be gentle, but she begs to be let loose now. Seriously, I am going easy and learning the new limits step by step.

Gimme a call whenever you feel the need for a post pre-ride. (or should I say re-pre-ride?) As long as it's not 40 degrees again I'm game.
