I am pretty certain that is a rod from the inside of the engine. He will not be riding that bike home.

Yep, I think it was a connecting rod. It looks like the wrist pin broke and spit the con rod out.

At any rate it is now a paper wight and the engine might turn into a boat anchor or a door stop.
